Once again "No Kill" has reared it's ugly head and right on the verge of the SB 818 which would allow more of this particular behavior. It took all day for me to compose myself enough to do this post after seeing the pictures from this "No/Slow Kill" sanctuary in Florida. This isn't the first time either for a large cat "No Kill" sanctuary to go down and it won't be the last.

Only a short while ago, this sanctuary was being proclaimed all over. A wonderful place of 30 acres where cats lived a leisurely life.

Caboodle Ranch was eye candy for the national media, shaded paths, ponds, rows of brightly-painted cathouses and treehouses- a mini-kitty city where cats could presumably while away their time lounging in the Florida sun.

On his website Grant describes the property as a "permanent sanctuary for cats who have been kicked around by heartless people." He states all the cats are up-to-date on vaccinations and get seen regularly by a vet.

The reality was very different, according to investigators.

And who rode in on a white horse to save these cats? Not Nathan Winograd, the organization he despises, PETA. Without their investigation, these cats would still be suffering under the house of "No Kill".

BRENDA BARNETTE: THE WITCH ON A WITCH HUNT

Actually I would prefer to use the initials of BB instead of "W"itch. Yes, indeed this woman is destroying LA Animal Services and all the while the Mayor is more interested in gaining the gay vote than in animal services.

Two animal control commissioners have resigned lately, both closely connected to Barnette. One was voting on issues of reducing fines on unlicensed dogs and all the while, this broad was breaking the law herself with unlicensed dogs. The other, well, she probably resigned to take over the ADL-LA with her extremely close association with it.

All the senior officers with all their experience was put on administrative leave and from the looks of it, it was not warranted. This article is a long read, but extremely well researched and documented. When you finished reading, call the Mayor's office and demand that Barnette be given her walking papers.

Usually I do excerpts from articles but there's just too much here. Many of the mentioned things I have done previous posts on. I was speaking with a friend about this and we both agree that Barnette should have come in and have been able to overcome all these things within the almost two years she has been on the job. These are just plain management problems, and should have been her first priorities. She screwed around on the licensing issue, taking ACOs from the field to walk door to door like vacuum salesmen, when there were other methods that would achieve better results.

Now to beat the band, Terri Macellaro has resigned from the LA Animal Services Commission. This really has me shaking my head. A better thing could not happen with Macellaro's baggage, literally and figuratively. I think she is going to make a run for Barnette's job. Barnette must be a big disappointment for the ADL-LA and Macellaro. I'd say things should start getting interesting soon.

Ruthanne Secunda, a Hollywood talent agent and president of Much Love Animal Rescue, quit early this month after she was accused of failing to license her three dogs, then voting to cut penalties for owners of unlicensed dogs. She later volunteered to pay five years of licensing fees, with penalties.

ATTICA, NY (WKBW) - Multiple complaints and 2 weeks of investigating led New York State Police to raid the SPCA of Wyoming County in Attica and its satellite adoption center at the Eastern Hills Mall Wednesday.

The Wyoming County SPCA is a no kill shelter and some volunteers say close to 250 cats were living inside the Attica location. Police aren't commenting on the exact conditions inside but said the sheer volume of animals caused a filthy environment.

"Deplorable does not accurately describe it," said New York State Police Captain Steve Nigrelli.

Oh, how Winograd has his panties in a wad right now. After he went and patterned his bullshit Companion Animal Protection Act after the Hayden, now the Hayden is in jeopardy of being repealed. Repealed or not, the damage has been done. Word is out that it is indeed a failure. Of course, Winograd is putting his usual spin on things. Gov. Brown is well known for riding that fence. Gov. Brown originally hoped to smooth things over with saying that it worked so well that we don't need it anymore. But the Legislative Analyst report says a different story although it does try to soften the blow.

LA ANIMAL SERVICES SINKS FURTHER UNDER BRENDA BARNETTE AND PAUL KORETZ

Well, folks, just when we thought LA Animal Services couldn't sink any lower, guess what? It hasn't bottomed out yet! Now Koretz squirmed himself even further into the Barnette's World of Breeders and so that he, as new head of the Personnel Committee, will have sole oversight of "animal welfare:. Yep, it's now the LA City Personnel & Animal Welfare Committee. Quite a stretch, huh? Where's the Homeless Children Committee or the Elderly Poor in the Streets Committee? Is he talking about city personnel & animals as one group that need welfare? Well, what ever it is, it certainly is a manipulation and wouldn't you say, a conflict of interest for Koretz? Isn't this the proverbial fox in charge of the hen house?

Here are the facts. Before Barnette got here, Koretz ran to the Mayor and whined his way onto the selection team. Since MV is always glad to share the blame, he jumped on that. So there was Paul Koretz, looking like the proud papa introducing Barnette at a press conference and talking about her being the best thing to ever happen to LA animals.

What did he base that on? Well, she was a breeder and the AKC Legislative Rep in Seattle. I guess that was good enough for him, since some of Koretz's best friends are breeders, according to a letter sent to him and posted by a big-time Encino breeder. (Remember that one? "We MUST have this increase in animals...Louis Krokover of the Encino Neighborhood Council wrote to Koretz as Koretz pushed for 10 adult animals and all the pups and kittens you want to breed in every yard in Los Angeles.). By the way Krokover also seems to have a little thing going with one of Koretz deputies! It's sort of incentuous, just like dog breeding.. Koretz, who thinks he is the expert on animals because he has a cat and had a puppy mill dog he got from a pet shop, he says.. So that qualifies him as an expert?

Now with LA Animal Services under his thumb, Barnette can continue torturing her staff and screwing up the department and getting what she really wants--Destroy LAAS! Remember in Seattle, Claire Davis replaced her on the committee and wrote to the CAO of Seattle, "We have spent 1-1/2 years trying to destabilize King County AC." Well, looks like that's about how long it's taking in LA but now Barnette has had some practice. And she has "Sleazy" Salazar who already proved he knows how to wreck the workplace and get the City sued.

So now, with Koretz, Barnette and Slazar in total charge, watch out City Council. The Big One may be coming. I heard it cost Riverside several mil. With the larger harassed staff at LAAS, let's see how that would add up.

And to get back to that conflict of interest, Koretz hired Barnette, has used her to try to get the animal increase for his buddies and can we say probably his best campaign contributors???? They are joined at the hip on all the stupid and useless things Koretz wants passed and Barnette gets to continue whipping the employees in her department while Mr. Personnel Committee Koretz turns a blind eye. It's just so perfect! And so sadistic! Pity the Animal Services Department. They are sinking like that Italian cruise ship, sunk by a City Council that doesn't care whether there are officers in a fire or earthquake disaster or out keeping the bad assed pit bulls from attacking people in LA. Well San Diego had three deaths by pit bull and a lot more attacks in just last year. With Koretz, Barnette, Salazar and pit bull loving Best Friends in charge of this city, L.A. will be doing better than that pretty soon. But as long as it's not their kid, will anyone on the City Council even care?

WHY DID YOU LEAVE TOMPKINS COUNTY, NATHAN WINOGRAD?

Winograd used the excuse that he had to go back to California to care for a sick/dying father in law. Well, the father in law was not dying and is going strong enough to have lawsuits chasing him. The real reasons Winograd left Tompkins was that his program was about to catch up with him. He was caught not busting a cruelty situation with a breeder and that was questioned. Numbers were being questioned by his board, contracts were questioning him about services, and then there was this. Note the date, just before he left Tompkins County, unexpectedly too.

ITHACA - Local animal humane officers - alarmed at a recent increase in the number of animal abuse cases reported - hope the trend only reflects communities becoming more aware of an existing problem.

"My hope is that we aren't seeing an increase in the level of violence," said Nathan Winograd, executive director of Tompkins County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. "I think, especially in Tompkins County, there has been an increasing intolerance of violent behavior to animals. Animals have been so powerless for so long, people are just becoming much more vocal about protecting them."

The Tompkins County SPCA responded to 51 reports of animal cruelty in March, Winograd said, though the average for the past three years has been about one call per day. In each case, one of the two SPCA investigators responded to the complaint within 24 hours of being notified.

Of those reported, Winograd said about 10 cases a year turn out to be aggravated cases of animal abuse - for example, animals suffering from gunshots or knife wounds or from a severe beating.

The Stray Haven Humane Society and SPCA Inc., in Waverly has also reported a significant increase in the number of animal cruelty complaints. In 2003, the agency received 140 reports of animal cruelty, and as of Tuesday, the agency had responded to 63 calls reporting instances of animal cruelty this year, said Patrick Cartwright, animal cruelty investigator at Stray Haven.

"Probably only a third of the cases go onto the courts," Cartwright said. "In most instances, people just need to be told how they need to comply with the laws. They may not know any better."

Due in part to the increased number of complaints, Cartwright has gone from the agency's only volunteer investigator to be the only full-time employee working solely on responding to animal cruelty complaints.

The number of animal cruelty cases reported at any given time depends on several factors, Winograd said.
"It tends to spike after a big case or a case gets media attention," Winograd said. "It also depends on what time of year it is and if people are outside where they can see these kinds of things happen." (That's his tale, I sit on mine!)

In accordance with a national trend, initiated in part by American Humane, the Tompkins County SPCA is cooperating with the county's social service providers. The theory is that if animals are being abused in a home, other types of abuse may also be occurring, possibly to humans, Winograd said.

"If we go in on an animal cruelty compliant and find children in need of care, we let social services know. They do the same for us," Winograd said. "Children and animals are the two most vulnerable parts of our society. We need to watch out for them."

AS USUAL, BRENDA BARNETTE NOT DOING HER JOB

As she drifts along, Breeder Barnette continues to show her love for the breeding community. First she wants to increase household limits and the only ones to benefit from that are breeders. Certainly not normal pet owners. You might not understand that if you haven't lived in LA. We, if anything, have problems with too many dogs now, in backyards, on the streets. Feral cats abound in LA. So we don't need more, Barnette.

Then she turns around and addresses barking dogs after attempting to put more barking dogs out there? Try as I may, I don't see this making good sense. Plus she just gave away a brand new shelter paid for by the taxpayers, and she wants more animals in the City, more strays, more owner surrenders, more cruelty, okay.

Now there is a mystery to be solved as well.

But things might change with a new law, now in effect, to fine dog owners $250 to $1,000 — that is, if anyone enforces it.

Then, in 2010, a bizarre series of events unfolded as City Hall tried to crack down. First, in May 2010, in a story that went national, the Los Angeles Times, Daily Breezeand CBS reported that the City Council voted 10-0 to create a $100 fine against obnoxious dog owners. Some media suggested the fines could generate up to $1.8 million annually.

Nobody at City Hall seems to know what happened to that vote. There's no record of it on the city website, and the Department of Animal Services never implemented a $100 fine — much less collected $1.8 million.

Instead, last year, one veteran animal services employee told L.A. Weekly that he had never heard of a $100 fine. And despite thousands of annual complaints, the department held only 83 formal administrative hearings to force owners to control their barking dogs.

And then Barnette trying to establish herself as a pro pit nutter, actually ruled against two just and fair rulings for an elderly couple. Barnette overruled in favor of backyard pit bulls.

Lopez says. "I walk around with earplugs in, and I sleep on the floor or in another room. It's made our lives a living hell and my husband has had two heart attacks."She says two administrative rulings by the L.A. Department of Animal Services were in their favor, and Lopez says hearing officer George Mossman was fair and just.But Barnette, a busy city department head dealing with frequent political headaches, found the time to intervene. Lopez says Barnette overruled Mossman.The case wended through the bureaucracy for months. Eventually, Animal Services ruled against the dog owners.

Yet nothing changed. Lopez says Animal Services officials today let the barking to continue in Highland Park. Lopez concludes that Barnette, who moved here from Seattle in 2010, suffers from an illogical fear of being perceived as "anti–pit bull."

Just another case of Barnette grandstanding without using her brain first. Increase the number of barking dogs, then an ordinance against them barking, and then no enforcement.

THE CASE OF NATHAN WINOGRAD PROTECTING A BREEDER IN TOMPKINS COUNTY

So here we have Winograd, aware of horrid conditions at a breeding kennel, and yet he left those animals in those conditions while he worked at "gradually" reducing the numbers. What does that mean? How did he pick and chose which dogs would get a chance and which ones would continue to live in those conditions?

""In February 2003, the Groton kennel relinquished 59 dogs to Tompkins County SPCA. The SPCA maintained there were signs of neglect and long-term medical problems. Records showed that the kennel had never been cited for conditions in the nine years it had operated. The SPCA, the American Kennel Club and the State of New York had all inspected the kennel. After an initial license inspection, the New York Dept. of Agriculture and Markets contacted Mr. Winograd to inform him of the conditions in the Groton kennel. Winograd admitted he had known about the Groton kennel conditions since he began as director of Tompkins County SPCA. His goal was to “gradually” reduce the number of animals at the kennel. An Ithaca Journal op ed at the time argued that Winograd and the SPCA dropped the ball on the abusive kennel by failing to follow through with appropriate action.

Since the SPCA routinely facilitates the prosecution of animal abuse, it is puzzling that this organization recently went out of its way to claim serious incidents of neglect at a dog breeding facility without following through with charges. In other instances of alleged violations of state animal welfare laws, the SPCA quickly handed the cases over to law enforcement authorities for prosecution. Why not now?""

WITH THIS MENTALITY, NO WONDER HE IS THE DARLING OF THE BREEDING COMMMUNITY.

When this article was published the 23rd, Petfinders had 649 Labradors listed for adoption in the San Diego area. Now why would they bring in more?

Could it be that San Antonio is trying to go "No Kill" and they are dumping on others? I'd vote for that one. Like LA City is dumping theirs on Canada, Washington, and Oregon.

CHRISTMAS RETURNS, BOGO RETURNS, WHAT IS "NO KILL" SELLING - SHOES?

One piece of information that you can't get from these "No Kill" shelters is their rate of return for their "reduced" adoption fees, BOGO sales, or Xmas/holiday specials.

From experience in Indianapolis during the reign of terror under Doug Rae, their $4 adoption special during 4th of July resulted in many letters being sent to the Councilmembers. These letters were from other shelters around the area where the $4 special pets were being returned, many of them because of biting. Rae refused to accept back these pets and the people were going to other local shelters for help.

This article points out the problem with discounting pets to the public, pimping pets at times when they should not really be adopted. Xmas, with people in and out of a home, excitement, etc., is not a good time to take a strange pet into a household. A gift certificate is much more appropriate and do the adoption afterwards. We want to move them into homes, yes, but we need to do what is in the best interest of the pet.

Hyde typically sees animals given back to the shelter that were once Christmas gifts, but she said usually doesn't see a big number of returns until April as the pets get bigger. Now, only January of 2012, Hyde counts 21 puppies calling the Canutillo shelter home. Some of the puppies were found in ditches, others running in the road, and some were dropped off directly at the shelter, like Noel.

Hyde says the age of the 21 puppies, none of which are more than a few months old, is what makes her wary that they're discarded Christmas gifts. Animal Rescue is a "no-kill" shelter, but as the pens fill up with more animals, there soon won't be a vacancy and unwanted animals will be turned away.

"We try to screen potential adopters and make sure they understand 'have you done your homework? Are you sure this is what you want? This is life time commitment' but we still get returns," Hyde said. "After a while you learn that they're only telling you want you want to hear."

When the Companion Animal Alliance took over, there were sometimes eight to nine dogs in each kennel. There are still about four or five in some, but they're trying to get them down to where all animals have their own.

TEXAS CITY — A Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary employee said it had been a week since she had been in the shelter to feed and care for the cats.

She said she had entrusted the care of the cats to a volunteer. But to some, it seemed that the animals had been left without care for a longer period.

Authorities seized 168 live cats Tuesday from Whiskerville Animal Sanctuary, and 27 were found dead at the private, no-kill shelter.

“The amount of weight loss that they have, I would, in my professional opinion, say that it’s been longer than a week,” Dr. Scott Johnson said.

His clinic, Scott Veterinary Clinic, received 11 cats, Johnson said.

Volunteers at the Galveston Island Humane Society have noticed many of the Whiskerville cats sent there are yearning for attention while others seem almost feral, said Caroline Dorsett, executive director of the Galveston shelter.

“These guys are emotionally starved,” Dorsett said. “Some of them are just desperate for human contact, and some of them don’t want us at all because I think they haven’t had it.”

It was noted in the audit by the City of Philadelphia in their audit of PACCA that dogs were euthanized BEFORE the end of their quarantine period. It resulted in people having to undergo rabies treatments in addition. If you recall, the management staff was handpicked by Winograd, they were the ones making these "mistakes". First, PACCA staff admitted to the auditors that some animals had been put to death prior to the required ten day holding period for bite cases. PACCA records were not maintained sufficiently to allow us to confirm compliance with holding requirements for animals that had bitten someone and could possibly have had the rabies virus. PACCA also failed to keep separate files for bite cases.
Second, PACCA’s monthly reports to the Health Department, mandated under the contract, were not always accurate.”

Butkovitz continued, “For example -- the monthly “Put-to Death” reports for 2007 that were provided to the Department were incorrect and euthanasia logs for July 2007 were missing”.

Euthanasia logs are used to monitor the use of Sodium Pentobarbital, which is a barbiturate; a controlled substance which may be habit forming and which comes under the Federal Controlled Substances Act under the DEA.

NOW THOSE ARE MISTAKES WINOGRAD STYLE!!
And see what the audit went on to say, how licensing was being neglected. Winograd and his cronies like Brent Toellner don't like licensing. To them making any pet owner fork out money for their pet like licensing, fencing, good food, etc, might cause an owner to give the pet up to the shelter where it will die. Does anyone find anything at all rational about that line of thought?

Butkovitz stated, “Another concern is the dismal 4% rate of dog license compliance. By increasing dog license registration the City will generate additional revenues that can go directly to the care and welfare of animals in Philadelphia. If PACCA increases licensing compliance to 25% an additional $650,000 would be generated.”

So if Winograd tries to get out of claiming the Baton Rouge "mistake" as just a mistake, remind him of Philly and PACCA, please.

ANOTHER OF WINOGRAD'S HOSPICES/SANCTUARIES THAT HARM ANIMALS

For years I have heard "rumors" about this particular organization, Beagles and Buddies. Looks like the rumors have a ring of truth. As usual the internet is full of those begging to help B&B without regards to what has happened there to the poor dogs.

Did you ever see how B&B cares for their dogs or are you assuming that all rescue groups do good work? Unfortunately, that is not so.

The City has regulations for kennel license and that doesn't guarantee that the dogs live a good live. It's simply bare standard. Not meeting those regulations makes me wonder what kind of life those dogs have. Especially if the rescue group failed to comply about things pointed out in 2007. This is not only about barking dogs and noise disturbance alone, this is about filthy living situations, poor care, mistreating dogs and not providing medical care ... pointed out by Animal Control.

I didn't get any positive feedback from my rescue friends about Connie Kramer and B&B. I heard disturbing things.
I checked out the internet about Connie Kramer of B&B and there are other disturbing situations described, including a Newspaper article from 1/1/2012 ... and the story of 18 dogs put in plastic airline crates in a hot 100 degree hot van to hide them for Animal Control...

EL MONTE - A local dog rescue organization might have to pack up and leave after the city denied it a business license and permit.
An appeal hearing for the kennel Beagles and Buddies is scheduled for Jan. 12.
If upheld, the decision by the city's Permit Committee would force owner Connie Kramer to move her animals out of two properties she operates - one at 2661 Strozier Ave. and another known as Red Cloud Ranch at 2658 Strozier Ave.
After a hearing in November, the city denied a business license and permit renewal for Beagles & Buddies because Kramer failed to comply with requirements requested in 2007 to mitigate noise, odor and other complaints, according to city documents.
"Four years later, not a whole lot has been done," El Monte City Attorney Richard Padilla said. "She does not have much of a good reason. Seems to be a lot of excuses, but not a lot of action."
Kramer says she's been trying to complete the requirements, but the city hasn't been cooperative.

On June 3, 2010 around mid-day, a locked van filled with 18 dogs packed in plastic airline crates was discovered on a South El Monte street. When Animal Control agents from SEACCA took the temperature inside the van, it was 100 degrees. Those dogs had been in that heat for at least 2 hours.
The dogs in the van belong to Beagles and Buddies Rescue. They were most likely in the van in order to evade an inspection of the Beagles and Buddies Rescue kennels, which routinely has 3 - 4 times the number of dogs they are permitted to keep (3 - 4 times the number they have the resources to care for). Hiding dogs in vehicles (and inside private residences, and their groomer) is a common practice whenever Beagles and Buddies anticipates an inspection.
Anyone who would stack dogs inside a hot van on a June day for whatever reason is more concerned about their own agenda than they are animal welfare. Adopting dogs from here would be the best thing you could do for those dogs. Unfortunately, it will also enable the hoarding going on at Beagles and Buddies to continue. If you visit Beagles and Buddies and witness unclean or unsafe conditions, REPORT IT. If LA County Animal Control gets enough reports they will be forced to take action. THAT is the best thing you can do for all the dogs unfortunate enough to find themselves under Beagles & Buddies control
Beagles & Buddies Facts:
1) June 3, 2010, a locked van was found in South El Monte with 18 dogs crammed into airline kennels. Dogs had been inside at least 2 hours when SEACCA (animal control) responded to an anonymous tip. They tested the air temperature inside the van and it was 100 degrees. SEACCA removed the dogs and took them to their shelter in Downey.
An investigation revealed the van and dogs belong to Beagles & Buddies Rescue of El Monte. On many occasions volunteers and employees have witnessed the "Director" of Beagles & Buddies ordering dogs to be placed in vans whenever an inspection was scheduled because Beagles & Buddies regularly has over 100 dogs at one time. They're only permitted to have 40. They only have the staff for half that.
18 dogs in a hot van on a June day. Does this sound like "rescue" to you, or like hoarding?
2) Beagles & Buddies advertises that they are a "no-kill sanctuary." This is very appealing to people who donate money. Several times a year Beagles & Buddies takes multiple dogs to be euthanized to make room for more dogs. The dogs sent to be killed are not necessarily sick dogs, either. Many people witnessed this happening at the Pasadena Humane Society. Since they were called out in the press for this, they've used private vets.
Beagles and Buddies is not "no kill" they are "selective kill." The dogs that won't get $700 in adoption fees only get to live there for so long. Eventually they will be killed by lethal injection at the "Director's" discretion.
3) Beagles & Buddies non-profit status with the State of California is "suspended." They continue to solicit donations.
4) Monetary donations to Beagles & Buddies pay for the food, the housing, the clothing, the entertainment, the automobile, the gas, etc., of their "Director."
I hope after this latest incident with the dogs in the van it has become abundantly clear to everyone that there is a problem at Beagles & Buddies. The organization is rotten at the top. There are many wonderful, selfless volunteers doing all they can for the dogs, but they are unable to do anything about the corruption and hoarding. It's time for a change of guard at Beagles & Buddies. For the dogs' sake.

The City of El Monte has been holding hearings about the horrible conditions at Beagles and Buddies for at least the last 2 years.
Connie Kramer, the woman who controls the day-to-day operations and lives off the donations and adoption fees, is a hoarder. There's no other way to put it. Many, many volunteers have confronted her about the fact that she has at least 100 more dogs at any given time than she has the resources to properly care for. There are dogs at "Questover" and "Red Cloud" that have lived on that property without ever leaving their concrete jails for YEARS.
Yes, you would be doing the best thing in the world to get a dog out of there, but Kramer will only get 4 more to replace it.
If you want to do something, go and tour the facility and then then complain to the LA County Animal Control and City of El Monte about the hoarding going on there, and the suffering of hundreds of animals in the care of a mentally unstable woman.
As long as Beagles and Buddies is run by Connie Kramer it will be the source of horrific suffering by the animals who aren't cute or desirable enough for Kramer to sell (yes, sell!!!) for $700 or more.

What has it all come down to? Nathan Winograd is the darling of the likes of Rick Berman. Nathan Winograd parrots the talk of Berman against HSUS and the ASPCA. That talk of Winograd and Berman is designed to take away donations and thus affect the fight against agribusiness cruelty, puppy mill cruelty and dog fighting. Ask yourself, is this moral or righteous?

Former Utah Animal Control Officer Charged with Animal Cruelty

The city of Smithfield appears to have a small animal control unit operating under the police department with no physical shelter. They do have what the Salt Lake Tribune describes as an “unshaded temporary holding kennel” outside where an ACO can place an impounded dog briefly before transporting the pet to an area shelter.

On Thursday, June 23, 2011, Smithfield ACO Brady Robbins reportedly picked up a 4 year old retriever named Lola and placed her in this outdoor kennel. After leaving the dog there, Mr. Robbins went on to “other tasks, including moving police department records to the city’s new police building”. When he returned to his AC duties on Monday, June 27, he found Lola dead in the pen from heatstroke. Mr. Robbins drove Lola’s body to the landfill and dumped it, then wrote the following in his log:

“I, Officer Robbins, had taken the dog to Cache Humane Society. The animal has been adopted by Cache Humane Society.”

Multiple witnesses who observed Mr. Robbins finding Lola’s dead body in the pen on June 27 reported the story to his superiors. Mr. Robbins resigned and this month was charged with one count of animal cruelty and one count of evidence tampering – both misdemeanors.

Once again "No Kill" fails to see the suffering caused by the puppets of Nathan Winograd. These animals are the victims of this movement.

Just a week or so ago, I saw on the Facebook page of Nathan Winograd under his post about euthanasia, a woman wrote to him about when is the "right" time, in regards to her old suffering dog. Nathan Winograd was about as hateful as you can get, telling this woman she should do hospice care, that there is no afterlife, no Rainbow Bridge. Even Christie Keith, his ranting buddy, disagreed with him. So, Nathie Boy, this one is for you. Here is your type of hospice.

Angel's Gate is a self-proclaimed animal "hospice and rehabilitation center" in Delhi, New York, operated by Marino. Angel's Gate receives "special needs animals" from all over the U.S. Marino promises donors and people who send her animals that the animals will "live out their days in peace, dignity and love."

The Delaware County, New York, District Attorney's Office has filed charges of cruelty to animals as well as a drug-related charge against Susan Marino, the woman responsible for the horrific suffering of hundreds of animals at Angel's Gate, Inc., which she founded, operates, and dares to call "a hospice and rehabilitation center."

Angel's Gate was a chaotic hellhole, where animals whose conditions required special, individualized, round-the-clock care were deprived of basic necessities and quality of life. PETA's investigator discovered the following:

Paralyzed animals dragged themselves until they developed bleeding ulcers, even though wheelchair carts were readily available. One dachshund suffered a wound so deep that it exposed the bone.
Animals whose bladders should be expressed every few hours were kept in the same diaper for up to two days until the diapers were urine-logged, and animals suffered from urine scald.
Animals, even severely dehydrated ones, were confined without access to water.
Animals kept outside in freezing temperatures without access to proper shelter.
Animals were confined to a bathtub, which they could not climb.
Animals were confined to bathrooms.
Small dogs were confined to Marino's bed, several feet off the ground, with no way to leave it.
Animals were suffering from treatable conditions without veterinary examination or care, including open wounds and respiratory, eye, ear, mouth, and skin infections. One dog's infected, rotten jaw snapped in half.
Crowded conditions so stressful that fights broke out daily, leaving animals with wounds that were left untreated.
Animals suffering from pain, seizures, and hydrocephalus (water on the brain) were denied veterinarian-recommended and/or prescribed medication.
Horribly suffering animals on death's door were deprived of the dignity and relief of euthanasia.
The bodies of dead animals were left out for days among live animals.
Animals were fed rancid, raw meat that had been left unrefrigerated.

NOW THE QUESTION IS WHERE IS WINOGRAD? WAS HE ON THE FRONT LINES TO BUST THIS CRUELTY? DID HE DONATE ANY OF HIS MONEY TO HELP PETA BUST THIS HORRIBLE PLACE? HOW DARE HE CONDEMN THESE ORGANIZATIONS!!

DELHI -- The Delaware County district attorney's office is reviewing a request by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals seeking an investigation into an animal hospice in the Catskills lauded on "Oprah" and "The Rachael Ray Show."

The nonprofit facility founded by Susan Marino in 1993 on Long Island relocated to Delhi in 2006. It has been featured on several national news outlets and television shows for its charitable work. In 2009, the shelter won Rachael Ray's Mutt Madness competition, which rewards what viewers vote to be the most outstanding charitable pet organization with $50,000. Angel's Gate beat out 550 other organizations for the top prize.

Marino was also featured in Newsday and People magazine and on "Martha Stewart Living" and the CBS Early Show. She received the 2001 ASPCA Founders Award for her facility on Long Island.

"No Kill" manages to sucker in these gullible personalities because it looks good on paper. Rachael Ray is a fool anyway with a pit bull that has attacked five times already. Ray even said she was putting off having kids because of the dog. So she is sacrificing having children for the sake of a five time loser pit bull. And people actually listen to this woman. It's all so disgusting.

Most of us are aware of the horrible dog auctions held in Ohio. Spent breeding stock, many needing medical care, not even to mention emotional care. Poor dogs with broken spirits. This Coalition managed to gather over 150,000 signatures on their petition when only 115,000 were required. WHY I WON'T WORK AT A "NO KILL" SHELTER

This caught my eye and I just had to post it. It points to all the reason why I fight this morbid "No Kill" movement of Nathan Winograd.

In college, I volunteered at a small animal shelter in Ohio. I never thought much about the shelter's policies. Only later did I realize how much suffering its limited admission policy caused. All "no kill" animal shelters—big or small—are limited-admission facilities.

The dogs no one wanted sat for years (yes, years) in solitary concrete and metal cages. The only bright spot in their day was when a volunteer would walk them for 15 minutes and give them a bit of time to wander in a dirt pen outdoors. Otherwise, they spent their days and nights confined to cages. On weekends, when everyone else was in the park or at the movies … on holidays, when everyone else was with their families and opening presents … 365 days a year, they sat in a cage. Occasionally, a puppy would be brought in and quickly adopted, but many of the older, bigger dogs sat hopelessly month after month.

I befriended a dog named Tigger, who probably weighed 80 pounds, was very cute, and had a wonderful personality. He was one of the sweetest dogs. (I suspect that he wasn't adopted because of his size, because he was a mutt, and because he didn't look like a dog you'd see in a magazine. I would have adopted him without hesitation, but animals weren't allowed in my dorm.) It broke my heart to leave him after our walks because I could see how lonely he was and how our walks were all that he looked forward to each day.

Looking back, I think of all the Tiggers languishing in limited-admission shelters and all the animals who are turned away from those shelters only to suffer on the streets or in abusive households. I wonder why people think those fates are preferable to giving animals a chance to be adopted at an open-admission shelter and, if no home can be found, a peaceful, dignified, painless exit in a loving person's arms. I sympathize with the folks who run limited-admission shelters—as I saw, many of them really do care about animals. But they often have such a fanatical fear of euthanasia that they will let an animal's spirit die for lack of joy or love or a home, just to keep them breathing for breathing's sake. The limited-admission model has proved over and over again that it isn't the answer—it's just sweeping the problem under the rug.

I have so much gratitude for people who work in open-admission shelters and have the thankless task of having to euthanize the animals they have fed, walked, cared for, and loved while constantly dealing with the question "Why aren't you 'no kill'?" We all need to speak out in support of shelters that accept every animal in need and support aggressive spay-and-neuter and "adopt—don't buy" campaigns. And next time you are chatting with staffers or volunteers at an open-admission shelter, thank them for their courage and compassion.

The shelter, One More Chance Rescue and Adoption, had been declared a public health nuisance, and with good reason. Conditions at One More Chance were pitiful: Dogs were housed in hog barns dotting the property and lived in stacked crates. The shelter manager, Jeff Burgess, also managed a second shelter in Piqua, Ohio, where 100 animals had been confiscated earlier in February.

The Clark County Humane Society and Clark County Combined Health District called on the ASPCA to help shut down One More Chance and assist the animals. When our responders arrived, they found 367 living and 76 dead dogs on the horrifyingly filthy property. Our responders immediately set to work helping local authorities collect evidence for possible criminal charges and triaging the animals, many of whom were in critical condition.

“The conditions these animals lived in were deplorable,” says James Staley, the executive director of the Clark County Humane Society. “These dogs were forced to live in their own waste, alongside rats and other vermin. Add to that the stress of coping in a crowded and poorly ventilated environment, and you have animals whose overall health is severely compromised.”

And the quote to end all quotes: “This is an example of a no-kill situation that spiraled out of control,” says Kyle Held, the ASPCA’s Midwest Director of Field Investigations and Response.

This is happening altogether too often. You never hear Winograd condemning these shelters, do you? You never see him going in and helping the victims of his philosophy, do you? And you won't. He doesn't care, never has, nothing but a deadbeat failed attorney trying to make a quick buck off of gullible people.

First there was a controversy with the first director hired to make Porter a "No Kill" about the theft of money. Then another shelter director was hired, one with a background in "No Kill". And she moved with this position. I would venture to say that she realized that this was a mistake, not because of spending time with her daughter, but rather in terms of "No Kill".

Here we go again. Lying, lying, lying about the "No Kill" "open door" shelters. Nathan Winograd and his puppets wouldn't know the truth if it ran up their collective asses. None of their claimed "open door" shelters are truly open door. Either they have a waiting list for owner surrenders or an evaluation for acceptability into the shelter or they just flat turn owners away with dirty looks and criticism.

This one is out in the open now. People are speaking out. And also officials are beginning to realize that they just can't afford to spend the money saving them all and are setting limits on treatment. That probably means more animals will have to be euthanized in those shelters and that will mean they are no longer "No Kill". Isn't happening quick enough for me and probably not for the shelter animals either. Forced to live in a kennel with maybe, if they are lucky, human interaction for 20 minutes a day, is not a good life.

As always, give them enough rope and they will hang themselves. And that is exactly what is happening with the "transport" program. I have said all along that transporting dogs to other states is not based in saving lives, but based in pimping "No Kill". It's simple really. Supply rescues with product so that they don't have to pull from their own local shelters and force more euthanasia, thereby giving Nathie Boy a consulting gig. Only Nathie Boy ain't getting those gigs like he planned, thank God.

The transport scheme is taking homes from shelter dogs and that cancels out any good from saving another dog. That's not the way it should be, sacrificing dogs to feed a small, fat man's ego. Rescues are not in business, they don't need to think in terms of competing with breeders. This is the excuse they use to justify what they do in accepting these transported dogs. The term "rescue" means you save lives, it has nothing to do with providing the public with what they want, yet this is what these receiving rescues say they are doing. We as rescues need to show the public the good in any dog whether it is old, black, big, or whatever. To subject these types to die in the shelter while you play businessman with the public does not make you a rescue nor does it make you a life saver.

Breeder Brenda Barnette was caught red handed for bringing dogs across state lines without vaccinations, risking bringing in disease. This particular article points out those risks. States are beginning to pay attention to this morbid scheme and passing legislation. Connecticut has already passed regulation legislation, Maine is considering the same. Now New Jersey is jumping on board. This indicates to me that we don't hear all the horror stories about this scheme. But it can't be hidden very long, all evil things eventually come to light.

The problem is too many people on both ends of this rescue spectrum and sometimes the transporters in between are unreasonably profiting from this burgeoning enterprise and the animals are suffering. We have heard of cases where unscrupulous "rescues" sweet talk shelter managers into giving them dogs, comb Craig's lists in the South, pick up puppies for a song, cram them into filthy cages, haul them to New Jersey - a hot bed of faux rescue activity - and peddle them at the local shopping mall for hundreds of dollars.

Bad rescues are rarely exposed until tragedy strikes. Puppies who haven't received proper vet care or were living in unsanitary conditions are flipped at the local Tractor Supply store for hundreds of dollars. The "rescuer" makes off with the cash while the new owners face high vet bills and emotional trauma of trying to save a severely ill dog.

But the profit mongers out there are preying on people's desires to adopt. With the torrent of publicity surrounding pet stores and their connection to puppy mills, families are looking for ways to adopt animals. Some New England states have a shortage of adoptable dogs, period. Blessedly, you don't see pregnant coon hounds roaming the back roads of Vermont. Sadly, many urban - and now suburban - shelters are overloaded with pit bulls. The number is well above 90 percent in Philadelphia. While pit bulls can and do make fine pets, unfortunately many in shelters have been abused and neglected. Many families are just looking for a fluffy puppy or more well-adjusted adult dog.

Transports deliver those animals. Beautiful hounds. Furry shepherd mixes. The occasional lap dog whose owner was living in her car because she lost her house. All abandoned, willfully or not.

ANOTHER FINE EXAMPLE OF HOW "NO KILL" WORKS - OR RATHER DOESN'T WORK

When you read things like this, it just makes you sick at heart. And it is happening far too often since the advent of "No Kill". George Bengal of the PSPCA was quoted in an article that before 2004 (when Philly drank the koolaid of Nathan Winograd's NKE program and he hand picked the management staff) the PSPCA saw about one or two hoarding cases a year, but since the PSPCA is seeing one to two CASES OF HOARDING A MONTH! Coincidence, I think not. Shelters are being pressured to "stop the killing" and this is resulting in too many animals being given out to totally irresponsible people. This pressure is a result of Nathan Winograd and his koolaid drinking puppets like Bett Sundermeyer and Ryan Clinton. Oh, they try to deny it but this is what happens. It's time that Ryan and Bett realize how much damage they are doing but that ain't gonna happen, they are on their ego trips and will be gone for a long while.

“The cats and several of the dogs were living in filthy conditions in the house situated closest to the street. The cats were kept in a small, filthy room attached to the garage of this first house, where they had no choice but to live in their own feces and urine. Eight to 10 dogs were living, some in rusted crates and some loose, in a room accessible from a bedroom in this first house. The floor in this room was decaying, and was coated in feces, urine and filthy bedsheets and blankets. The door to this room had been sealed off with industrial tape and hidden by a curtain,” a spokesperson with the SPCA said.

The second house contained approximately 20 dogs who were living in deplorable conditions.

The SPCA of Texas has received information that the animal owner in this case was a part of a rescue group, and was separated from that group to start her own purported rescue group called Elliot’s Friends Rescue, allegedly transferring animals from at least one municipal shelter. (But Winograd and his buddies think this is just a-ok, just as long as they are alive, who cares about the conditions they are living with or without.)

“Some licensed shelters are put under such pressure to not euthanize animals for any reason that they end up transferring animals to anyone willing to accept them. Why are they considering cruelty charges against this woman? She did the right thing by taking the cat in. The "No Kill" rescue group should be charged with abandonment. Take Me Home Day

Councilmember Koretz joined Westside Neighborhood Council and LA Animal Services for a "Take Me Home" day at the Westside Pavilion. The Westside Neighborhood Council has been working with various shelters and rescues throughout the district to hold weekend adoption events in the mall to find homes for dogs and cats. The adoption events have been tremendously successful, with several dogs and cats finding permanent homes. (Several doesn't sound like "tremendously successful" to me!)

AUDIT SAYS NO GUNS MISSING AT LA ANIMAL SERVICES

Remember back when Brenda Barnette called in the LA Police Department to investigate guns in the shelters, guns used in the field to euthanize wildlife? That particular decision was questioned because why call in the LAPD, why not an internal audit? As usual Breeder Barnette was trying to take the emphasis off her poor decisions and make employees scapegoats. A waste of taxpayer money is what I call it. Now the audit is done, there are no missing guns, just a quote about poor record keeping. Now who does that record keeping, why none other than Breeder Barnette.

She requested the audit after at least one service weapon used to euthanize wild animals was suspected to be missing, possibly as a result of sloppy records, Barnette said. (And again I ask, who keeps up with this, who is reponsible? Records are kept for the education of the management staff, yet you couldn't figure it out and called in the PD.)

Now it appears that some animals will probably suffer in the field because of a change of policy. Officers will be injured trying to load wildlife to take to the shelter. Boy, this Breeder Barnette is one stupid broad.

Make this holiday fun for your furry family members, too!

Halloween can be a festive and fun time of year for children and families, but for pets it can be stressful and even dangerous. Here are some ways to keep it fun and safe:

This is the perfect time to make sure your pet is licensed, microchipped and wearing up-to-date identification. A dog license helps our Officers get your lost pet safely home.

Plan ahead to keep your companion animals in a room away from the front door when trick-or-treaters are visiting. It is too easy for them to become frightened by the goblins and slip out the door.

Chocolate and other seemingly harmless ingredients can be poisonous to dogs and cats, so keep them out of reach. Dispose of the wrappers where pets can’t get them to avoid choking. Also, remember that children may not understand why Fluffy can’t share their treats, so use this as a teaching opportunity.

Tail wagging is a good thing – unless it’s done around a lit candle! Keep candles and lit Jack-o-Lanterns at an appropriate height where your pets can’t knock them over or get burned.

A decorative collar is far more comfortable than a costume for your pet. Make sure your pet thinks a costume is as much fun as you do before you dress them up for Halloween.

By following these helpful tips, Halloween can be a fun and safe holiday for pets and people alike!

Trick or Treat!

Now, my suggestion and something I do each year at Halloween. I put a sheet in each child's bag with information regarding spay/neuter. I also include information regarding chocolate, onions, grapes, etc. being toxic to pets. I tell the children that the information sheets are for their parents. Every year that I have done this, I get at least a couple of visits from parents about this information and it results in pets being altered.

Why can't you put this kind of emphasis on spay/neuter, Breeder Barnette? You can't because your mindset is that of a breeder and we don't need a breeder in charge of animal control because you won't enforce the law regarding spay/neuter. Go back to where you came from, Barnette.

THE NO KILL KILLED US - THAT'S WHAT DID IT

This is not the first article to be written saying Rancho is not "No Kill". When they opened their doors, they were overrun with owner surrenders, turning them away. Other local shelters reported that these Rancho owners were showing up at their shelters with the tale that Rancho refused them. Rancho denies this but we know the truth.

If you look at the original 2008 Annual Report of Local Rabies Control Activities, you will see that more animals died in their kennels/cages than at the County shelter which handles twice the number of animals. When a humane officer questioned them on this signed report, immediately they issued another report with the excuse that they still had not figured out how to use their Chameleon system AFTER TWO YEARS!! Another report was issued.

Someone once said that all these people who tried to relinquish their pets to Rancho just shows how people want to use a "No Kill" shelters. I bet to differ. It shows that "No Kill" just gives people an excuse to "get rid of" a troublesome pet. "No Kill" has taken the guilt away from the public and now they come running. Then "No Kill" wants to turn them away, can't have it both ways.

So the taxpayers of Rancho are spending over $12 each person each year to maintain a shelter that absolutely can't be "No Kill". Rancho is an affluent community too, and that means more spay/neuter usually. But with the advent of "No Kill", why not let your pet have a litter to show your kids the miracle of birth. With "No Kill", we'll take the litter, when it becomes too much trouble, to the no kill shelter, won't have to explain to the kids, and it is a happily ever after story.

Yep, that's right, a fairy tale that is destroying open door shelters all over. Don't throw up Austin, that is a failure just waiting to be recognized. Don't throw up Reno, nothing but lies. Charlottesville is non profit, can't get the truth via public records. Winograd, you have nothing left, you are a miserable failure and your puppets are deserting in droves. Get a job.

I always say that pit bulls are accidents waiting to happen but not in the same sense as whether death by pit bulls should be ruled as an "accident" and no charges filed against owners. The pit bull issue is an important one to me because I think it just may be the one issue that stops "No Kill". I started studying this issue in regards to the mentality of pits get a bad rap. I happen to love pit bulls actually. Once I did my research I learned that I have been one incredibility lucky person. I can't tell you how many pits I have taken off the streets as strays, how many puppies I have picked up from owners and breeders, more than you can imagine. Never had a problem. Pits are highly unpredictable and if you make it through a pit's lifetime without an "accident" then it's only because you were lucky.

Would it mean more pits dying in the shelters, probably, I don't disagree with that. But it also may mean many other things that can make the future better. We can't stay in the present and fix the problem. We have to look to the future and think about saving those lives. Save as many as we can now, and let the rest go.

So if more pits die in the shelters, if shelter policies mean more pit euthanization, then that would have a drastic affect on doing "No Kill" programs. Let the Whino go after the public officials when they dictate policy or make ordinances. Nathan J. Winograd has always barked up the wrong tree by going after shelters. Do BSL and people will know who the "real enemy" is when shelters responded that they have no choice, it is the law, then Nathan Winograd will have to back off the shelters and go for the lawmaker's throat.

All in all, there is a problem with pit bulls, something needs to be done and I support BSL, not bans, but BSL.

I am in total respect of police K-9s. How many lives of police officers have been saved with these wonderful canines? Well, Clayton County, Georgia gets the JOY award for this one. The JOY Award is given each year to the biggest jerk of the year, thus the Jerk of the Year title. The Clayton County police officer injured in a crash earlier this week is expected to make a full recovery, his wife said Wednesday. But his four-legged partner remains in critical condition, facing surgery and extensive medical care.
That's because the county commission voted to retire Lakota at its meeting Tuesday night, according to a resolution on the county's website. Since Lakota no longer works for the county, the county isn't responsible for the dog's treatment, Corey Fox said.

Lakota, who is currently at the University of Georgia Veterinary Teaching Hospital, has a shattered leg that will have to be amputated and another leg that is severely broken, Corey Fox said. The dog may also have a broken hip and other broken bones, she said. Lakota is stable, but in very critical condition, Fox said.

Katherine Gilmore, spokeswoman for the veterinary hospital, told the AJC Lakota is sedated and bandaged while awaiting surgery.

The surgery and medical care could total more than $10,000, but the hospital has agreed to cut the cost to around $3,000, Corey Fox said. And when Lakota is released, a ramp will likely be needed at the Fox home, and possibly a special bed and wheelchair, she said.

Corey Fox, who owns a dog-training business in Henry County, has posted an update on Lakota on her company's website, along with a link for those wanting to make a donation to the dog's care.

Amanda, every single one of our admins (there are 6 of us) either are current or former volunteers & people who have directly worked in and with the shelter. We each have firsthand knowledge of disturbing things that we have seen happen at the shelter, which is why we decided to come together and form this page.
We support the shelter as a "No-Kill" shelter which, by PCAS's own definition means they only euthanize animals which can be deemed too dangerous to let into the public, or too sick/injured to be able to have any successful medical treatment.
There have been several instances that we know of 1st hand in which animals were not given proper treatment. As you probably know, there are currently many dogs housed at the shelter with Kennel Cough, some of which are not being treated and have not seen a vet.
There are many more instances that I personally (as only 1 admin) cannot post because it was not my own experience, but I do know that each individual admin will be posting things they've witnessed when each is able to take some time to sit down and type everything out.
Again, I am just 1 of 6 admins and I don't want to speak for anybody else, but the things that I have personally seen have been rather disturbing.

Not every single person who volunteers in the shelter is going to see something disturbing; sometimes a situation plays out to where there are very few, if any witnesses. (Translated: Only us "No Kill'ers" can see anything and what we see is only in our little, misguided minds.)This may be why you believe that these things are not happening at the shelter. I can assure you, however, that they are happening. I have seen you in the shelter many times and more often than not, you have been in the office working up front. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with that at all, because office work is just as important as work in the back, however, because you're mostly up front, I'm guessing there are many situations you have not personally witnessed simply because you're in a different area. Again, there's nothing wrong with that. All I'm saying is that don't discount something just because you haven't seen it firsthand.

So now it looks like this shelter has taken the same route of abusing animals as most all other of Nathie's "No Kill" shelters. One day the truth will come out about Reno and Charlottesville, justice always prevails.

Through the help of PetSmart Charities and a $10,000 grant, APA! was able to pull off the massive parking lot event held at the Brodie Lane PetSmart in Austin. Over 200 cats, kittens, puppies and dogs were on-site and ready for adoption, all with reduced fees of only $10.

And Petsmart, who hired one of Brenda Barnette's cronies, has no business offering grants in hopes of getting more business. Surely Petsmart knows that people who think in terms of a $10 pet are not going to be shopping in Petsmart, can't afford it. Just look at guinea pigs, hamsters, those disposable pets, now they are costing more than dogs and cats. In this case, it plainly shows how the courts side with these "No Kill'ers" because people are under the misconception that those who want to save animals are the salt of the earth. Voice of the Animals Camelot Sanctuary was promoted as a no-kill shelter for sick and unwanted cats — but investigators say the unsanitary, cramped conditions were torturous to the animals. The animals were seized in 2006, and operators Cheryl and Edwin Criswell were both charged with 10 counts of animal cruelty, a misdemeanor in Idaho.

“It’s the worst in my memory, that’s for sure,” said Idaho Humane Society Director Jeff Rosenthal, who investigated the compound in 2005. “It’s hard to rate. Is 99 starving horses worse than over 400 starving cats and dead kitties in freezers?”

The Criswells each pleaded guilty to animal cruelty. In January 2007, a judge sentenced them to 180 days in jail on each of the 10 counts — almost five years total — but he suspended all of the jail time, according to court records.

Bonner County Prosecutor Louis Marshall said he doesn’t believe the Criswells ever intended to harm the animals in their care.

“They weren’t trying to be cruel. … She had serious mental issues. They both did,” Marshall said Monday.

He said the support for no-kill shelters in North Idaho contributed to people dumping unwanted animals, including those that were sick and diseased, on the Criswells.

SAN ANTONIO--- Former employees and volunteers say Cheryl Wildenstein, who runs Animal Friends Humane Society, is cruel to animals. The former workers joined the owner of the shelter property in court to ask a judge to grant an eviction notice to Wildenstein.

The former employees say Wildenstein keeps dogs locked in cages too many hours each day. In court documents, they also claim the shelter operator didn't keep necessary medical records or get routine vaccinations for cats and dogs--which has led to many illnesses. The workers says this makes it hard to find adoptive homes for the animals.

She told us the shelter operator wouldn't allow people to check the back of the property, where many dogs remained locked in cages, and said only few animals were kept up front for visitors to see. Lang says she left after six months of work. (Too many of these shelters hide the truth of their actions and too many volunteers remain silent.)

The shelter is a no-kill facility but former workers say animals are dying from a lack of proper care. The shelter's website is asking for help to find homes for animals and help with relocating the shelter operation.

I’m looking forward to being able to move Rockwall from “No-Kill In Progress” to “No-Kill Achieved” at the end of the year. Which translates into animals having to suffer more than necessary so a bunch of "volunteers" can have their ego trip. Do you think that No Kill News will report on the disease outbreak, thus causing a cease in adoptions while the idiot volunteers want to send exposed dogs into foster care? This is a write-up from Cornell University about distemper and vaccinations. There has always been a strong argument to NOT vaccinate animals coming into a short term holding facility (shelter) from homeless background because, even if you do vaccinate upon arrival, it generally takes 10 - 14 days to reach some reasonable level of immunity. I haven't researched any of these recently but I believe that this is still reasonably accurate information.

The Rockwall volunteers want to vaccinate incoming and put them into foster homes, like the incoming doesn't get exposed to distemper. Again, I don't want a foster in my home until the vaccinations are effective, would you?

And their minds won't let them accept what they have done, instead, just like their puppetmaster, they blame someone else. Of course they are blaming a vet, saying that a vet didn't even examine the dogs before pronouncing a diagnosis of distemper. Although the facebook pages are calling for confirmation of this, none has been offered.

UPDATE: That "No Kill News" seems to be a little slow. There was an update on that blog about what is happening at that shelter but, of course, no admittance as to what the real reason is that caused the outbreak, overcrowding due to the volunteers and their version of "No Kill". This is a comment to that blog's update and it reads very interesting.

"My family visited the Rockwall Animal Shelter on Tuesday, in search of a new dog. We found a sweet pyraneese mix, and after playing with him, we decided to take him home. I was notified that he was heartworm positive, but that his treatment would be paid for. I went through with the adoption, and was planning on giving this dog a second chance, we contacted the vet who would be giving him his treatment, to learn that they didn’t even know when they would have the serum for this rather large dog. It could be months, before they received his medication, due to a shortage of the treatment. I was heartbroken, that I may have to watch this poor dog suffer from heartworms, so my husband contacted the animal shelter, who then informed us of the mysterious respiratory illness that was going around the shelter. We then had to bring the dog back to the animal shelter, so that we did not expose this potential mystery disease to our animals. After reading that they had sick animals on Monday, and we adopted this dog on Tuesday, I am rather upset, that the sick and healthy animals were not already seperated, and being watched carefully, instead of being adopted out!! Now poor innocent animals, are being euthanized due to negligence on the shelter’s part. My concern then was for my other adopted dog, which we have had for a year, whom we had vaccinated, apparantely a dog needs to have a series of 3 shots before they are 100% immune to the disease!! I do not know this dogs past, so I am praying he will be ok, and we are boostering all of our dogs currently for precaution! We are just pretty upset, because we were never contacted by the animal shelter about the potential threat of this deadly disease!! Pray that these animals who are not showing signs, are not euthanized, and instead watched carefully before finding new homes!"

Rancho Cucamonga had an outbreak when they went "No Kill" and they also failed to tell people. The shelter notified the local vets but still parents were wondering how their child came down with ringworm. This is unethical but since when could you call "No Kill" ethical?

The feelings I have right now are mixed. Nathie Boy's latest rant just had to make mention of Pat Dunaway, along with a few more who dare to speak against this self proclaimed Savior of Shelters. But more than that, much more than that, is seeing him as such a negative, obsessive, fanatical with a Savior complex. So that solicits the feeling of pity, of wanting to reach out and help this lost soul.

I get accused of being a hateful person on this blog. That is intentional. This blog was meant for us to express our frustrations in whatever manner we feel like. To express frustrations is helpful in keeping focus and that's what I want people to do when they are trying to fight this man.

You can find this on his blog, I suppose. I can't stand to look at him so I avoid it, but someone sent it to me. Here are some excerpts.

He begins with this: “When you resort to attacking the messenger and not the message, you have lost the debate.” Question, then why does he attack so many others, because they don't have a message? There's always two sides. This is the Savior complex, "I am persecuted" when he is so guilty of being the one doing the persecuting.

Winograd accuses Michigan Humane Society of not being transparent yet remember that Charlottesville ain't that transparent either, neither is Nevada Humane in Reno. Just try to get information from them, public request info, and get a nice little letter from their attorney.

The question is who sets these arbitrary numbers, these arbitrary definitions of treatable, adoptable, untreatable, unadoptable? Where does all this come from? A lawsuit filed today by an animal rights group accuses the Palm Springs Animal Shelter of euthanizing animals too quickly and of lax record keeping. The suit filed at the Larson Justice Center by the Animal Legal Defense Fund names four Riverside County residents who volunteered at the shelter as plaintiffs.

The complaint alleges that the shelter violated the Palm Springs municipal code by euthanising animals before the required five-day holding period. "There is a holding period required by law that says animals must be held for a certain amount of time so that somebody can come in and find them and adopt them," said Michelle Lee, an attorney with the Animal Legal Defense Fund. "These animals are not given that chance."

A city representative did not immediately return a message seeking comment on the suit. But Palm Springs City Councilwoman Ginny Foat, a member of the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, called the allegations in the lawsuit "ludicrous."

"We never, ever euthanise adoptable animals," she told The Desert Sun. She said the shelter only euthanises animals that are vicious or very ill, deeming them "not adoptable."

The complaint alleges that, between August and December 2009, 40 cats were killed in violation of the five-day waiting period. That number jumped to 64 between July and November 2010, according to the ALDF. During both of those periods, 40 cats total were euthanised in less than 72 hours, Lee alleged. The shelter has an unusually high euthanisation rate, according to the ALDF, which claims that records it uncovered show more than 80 percent of unclaimed cats and 50 percent of unclaimed dogs were euthanised over certain time periods.

"The municipal shelter bills itself as a no-kill shelter, but it has a pretty significant euthanasia rate," Lee said. The complaint also alleges that the shelter has violated a state law requiring shelters to provide prompt veterinary care and adequate nutrition, water and shelter and to maintain proper records for each animal impounded.

According to the ALDF, about 25 cats and 15 dogs were found dead in their kennels in 2009, without any indication those animals received proper veterinary treatment. Between July and November 2010, about 25 cats and four dogs were found dead without any record of treatment, according to the lawsuit. The complaint states that, between July and November of last year, 15 cats and 11 kittens were euthanised before the fifth day of impoundment, with the shelter citing medical reasons in each case. However, "the majority of the impound records related to those animals gave no further details on specific medical conditions or veterinary treatment rendered," the lawsuit says. "(The Defendants) did not provide any indication that the animals were not treatable or were irremediably suffering."

The lawsuit names as defendants the city of Palm Springs -- which operates the shelter, the Palm Springs Police Department -- which is responsible for animal control -- and the Friends of the Palm Springs Animal Shelter. The plaintiffs are seeking an injunction to force the shelter to comply with state and local laws, as well as unspecified monetary damages to the four individual plaintiffs who claim they suffered emotional harm.

"Filing suit is our last resort to help this city's desperate homeless animals," said Marla Tauscher, another attorney with the Animal Legal Defense Fund.

A hearing on the request for an injunction has been scheduled for May 25 at the Larson Justice Center, according to court records.

These "No Kill'ers" are turning on their own. Yes, we need something in court to define what is happening. Who says that South LA Animal Shelter should have a 90% save rate to be called "No Kill"? Go look at the dogs in that shelter and tell me that they can do this. Not Winograd's way, focusing on adoptions, adoptions, adoptions. Save them all ain't working, period.

And Lord, doesn't he paint a rosy picture of him as a home body? He is spewing propaganda, dangerous propaganda all over the world and he wants us to see him as an innocent person???? Not me, buddy, I don't fall for your shit.

Then to take to threatening, Nathie Boy, how great thou art, is another indication that you need to seek professional help. You ain't what you think you are, far from it. If you don't have anything to hide, you wouldn't be barking. You'd welcome it.

How much more will it take for Breeder Barnette to be put on the rails and driven out of town? It's bad enough that impounds and euthanasia have increased under Barnette, but adoptions have fallen as well. You may not blame her for the increase in euthanasia but you can certainly blame her for the falling adoptions.

And why would the local rescues want to work with the shelters now? Barnette has brought in a money machine with Best F(r)iends to take away the donations to our local rescues, didn't even give the local rescues a chance to take the shelter, gave it away to Barnette's choice. She knows she is on short time and she wants to assure herself of a job with Best F(r)iends. She looks like she will make a fine member in their church.

In case you have been hiding under a rock lately, this has happened because of the massacre of 14 trees at a shelter. These trees provided shade as part of the eco-system at the shelter plus they provided shade for the lines of people who come to the vaccination clinics. Imagine dogs standing on hot concrete in LA in those lines now that the trees are gone. But there is a happy ending, the trees will be replaced. All this was done to put up banners, banners with Best F(r)iends' logo, advertising for a group that collects donations. I bet several local rescues would have rather had their logos on those banners, not a Satan worshipping group from another state.

Breeder Barnette should have been up on a ladder herself covering up "South Central" and pasting a picture of people of ALL races and NOT children adopting animals. A Google search of Vikki Shore brought me to your blog. I am writing to you because of the following comment an anonymous blogger posted on June 28, 2010:

“Interesting Blog. I happened upon it when I Googled Vikki Shore. Any follow-through with the Real Estate Licensing Authority? Any update from the lessee?
Advice on tax records was good, but ownership was ambiguous...no individual to complain to. Real Estate Licensing complaint route was difficult.
I was also an unfortunate lessee. Leasing from Vikki was an experience best chalked up to lessons learned:
1. Don't sign a lease without documenting every cosmetic and functional deficiency in writing...if I lease again, I will hire a professional to conduct and document the inspection (the ~$350 charge to do this would have been a shrewd way of independently documenting the condition)
2. Don't expect items that are in disrepair to be repaired (you would think that an owner/manager would want to keep the property and appliances in good condition)

6. Expect unsubstantiated late fees

I am an attorney who is involved in litigation with Ms. Shore and her real estate holding entities. In particular, in Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court Case No. CIVRS1002650, I am both defending former tenants of Ms. Shore and suing (by cross-complaint) Ms. Shore and her real estate entities. It points to a serious flaw in the marketing of Breeder Brenda Barnette. She shows children in a low income area of LA playing kissy face with a pit bull. Talk about stereotyping, how blatant can you be? Real, normal kids in those areas don't want a pit bull, they know what pits are for. Those nice kids want a real pet, a dog that won't be turned into a fighter. Barnette, you are so racist. Bad enough that you allowed the trees to be cut down, then add insult to injury with racist banners.

I think the silence of the City Council and Koretz and Rosendhahl, who claim to be environmentalists is appalling and makes us wonder why. Koretz just asked for an ordinance to ban both plastic and paper bags from markets, yet not one word about cutting down 14 mature trees on City property and keeping animals cool (where's are these great "animal lovers" when the animals really need them but there's no camera around.") They don't want to admit they hired a "dud."

Same with the Mayor---we have fines of $1,000 for anyone who cuts down or even trims a tree in their own parkway without a City permit and using a City contractor. This was some jerk who brutally assaulted the trees---much like Bernheimer's movie reviews describe the assaults on the girls in his film. So, instead of going after him, because Barnette approved it (although she also says she didn't), all the environmental interest is gone.

Also, not ONE African American member of the City Council (Perry, Parks or Wesson) has said anything about calling it the "South Central" shelter or that African American (and Latino) children are stereotyped with pit bulls. It's not the first time that the Mayor has engaged in stereotyping either. The Mayor's office insisted that the old LAAS website contain 75% black, 20% Mexican and 5% Asian. The Mayor went so far as to say not to have any white people because white people won't complaint if they aren't included but blacks will. The Mayor's office said to mainly put black people because blacks complain the most.

Are they counting on big campaign contributions from Bernheim? Barnette said he didn't donate anything to LAAS except the banners which advertise his foundation. A question that needs to be ask is whether Bernheimer is a member of the Church of Best F(r)iends. He sure sounds like their type.

The latest is that these two stopped animals from being transferred to another shelter in order to make room to help people who have been burned out from the horrible wildfires burning in Texas. Here's the story. Abigail Smith, and we all know that I dislike this woman, made a good decision for a change and tried to send some of the Town Lake shelter animals to the Houston SPCA to make room at the shelter for the evacuees of the wildfires. We also know that "No Kill" hates empty kennels, mostly because it fails to understand the reasons to have empty kennels. The wildfires and evacuations are one reason. Anyway, Smith was to send some animals to the HSPCA, until Clinton and Sundermeyer started raising hell about it. Clinton and Sundermeyer came up with their excuses, all of which can't hold water. Sundermeyer wants to get back in the good graces of her puppet master, the Whino. She failed him by not delivering Houston into his greedy and burger grubbing fat hands. This was her opportunity to "redeem" herself. So she condemns an agency that handles over 100,000 animals a year. The Houston SPCA is known all over the country for being on the frontlines fighting animal cruelty, something that the Whino doesn't do. They are in the trenches day after day helping suffering animals, yet these cultists condemn them. You will ask why and it is obvious if you go into their website. They don't go along with "No Kill", they are realists. And this pisses off the likes of Clinton and Sundermeyer. The Houston SPCA does more for animals in one day than Clinton, Sundermeyer, and Winograd combined for their entire lifetimes.

The Houston SPCA is what is termed an "open door" shelter, meaning that we accept every animal that is brought to us. We feel that we serve the animals of our community best this way. Although the idea of becoming a no-kill shelter is certainly appealing, current reality in Houston is not that simple.

Clinton also had his panties in a wad because he claims that the Houston SPCA doesn't adopt out pit bulls. Well, DUH, I don't blame them. Many shelters throughout the country don't adopt out pit bulls. Loudoun, VA underwent several lawsuits about their policy and they won each one of those suits. They still don't adopt out pit bulls. Considering pits are committing 2/3rds of the dog bite related fatalities, they are a liability for any shelter. The Houston SPCA has deep pockets and they aren't taking any chances, who can blame them. Clinton, a make believe attorney, should understand something that simple. Clinton's version:

(1) The Houston SPCA does not share the lifesaving values of Austin's community and City Council; it admittedly engages in breed-discriminatory killing. Translated: We don't give a rat's ass about the damage that pit bulls are doing, I'm gonna have my picture with one on Facebook.

Another of Clinton's sorry excuses for stopping this life saving transport. (2) The Houston SPCA is not transparent. Duh, it's a non profit, none of the non profits are transparent, particularly the ones like Charlottesville and Nevada Humane. Those don't bother him, why should HSPCA bother him.]

(3) The Houston SPCA is, in fact, a high-kill shelter. Clinton uses figures taken from Guidestar but he fails to tell the truth about them. HSPCA is known more for cruelty cases and they do over 14,000 cases a year. When you are involved on that level, you will have more euthanasia. Clinton would rather these animals suffer than have a humane death. HSPCA doesn't take it lightly to euthanize, they try to save lives with their huge vet staff. Clinton puts up some old info about the "save rate" and challenges Smith to prove what she said about HSPCA having a 68% save rate. I say that Clinton needs to prove he knows math.

(4) There were better offers on the table. Yes, all were from those who are already overcrowded and having to do free adoptions.

Now here's the one that shows Clinton's grandstanding.

(5) The attempted transfer has meaningfully harmed Austin's credibility in the animal-welfare community. It's more like the laughing stock of the country for being so gullible as to adopt a program that has proven itself to harm animals, more than help.

So I guess the honeymoon is over, huh, Clinton? You are showing what you are indeed made of - shit.

A NORTH PHILADELPHIA woman appears to have been killed by a pack of pit bulls Tuesday, but her son says that the city's animal-control team deserves some of the blame for her violent death.
Carmen Ramos, 50, died from injuries suffered in an attack by the five dogs owned by her husband, Jose Alvarez, 56, according to a preliminary autopsy report, police sources told the Daily News.
But it wasn't the first time this month that the dogs attacked someone on Carey Street near Lawrence.
Neighbors said that the dogs were taken away Aug. 19 by the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals after they attacked two neighborhood residents, but they were returned three days later.

Residents of the block wondered out loud why officials released the dogs after the bite attacks last month. (I DON'T HAVE TO WONDER, IT'S DUE TO SUE CROSBY SUBSCRIBING TO THE DRIBBLE OF THE WHINO THAT PIT BULLS GET A "BAD RAP").

Will the Mayor ever learn? His appointed manager of LAAS is making one mistake after another. No surprise to me, of course, she did the same in Seattle. Breeder Brenda Barnette is incapable of running a municipal agency.

There has been a new Assistant Director hired after BB "got rid of" Kathy Davis. And that dismissal of Kathy resulted in LA's rescues being on the losing end.

Now there are two lines of thought here regarding the new Assistant Director, John Chavez. One line is that BB hired someone without animal control experience (are you listening Pam? Wasn't that the problem you had with Stuckey, no experience?) in order for BB to have a yes man. Can't say no when you don't know anything, right? At least Chavez has experience in government, which BB doesn't, and that can help.

The other line of thought is that this may be a plan of succession, in other words, BB's departure. Would be better to have someone like Chavez on board before BB gets booted. However, I don't feel comfortable with a quote from Mr. Chavez which is " “I'm privileged to be part of an organization whose mission is to protect the health, safety and welfare of animals." This leads me to think that Mr. Chavez doesn't really know why we have shelters, not for the animals in as much as for the safety and well being of the community. First and foremost, animal control is to protect the community, not the animals. You'll have to decide for yourself.

Then on to a serious screw-up, one of many by the infamous BB. Trees, those trees around the shelter.

Trees help make anything look more acceptable, more homey, more like you want to visit. Plus, it appears, that was more of a purpose to those trees than just to beautify. Yet, Breeder Barnette, with her limited vision chose to take those trees away to put up a 70 foot banner as if people don't already know they can go to a shelter to adopt. Useless waste of advertising. What is even worse is that it is the work of Pamelyn Ferdin, Pammie, a notorious gang leader, not a pet welfare activist. Why is Breeder Barnette in bed with Pammie on this? Anyone in their right mind would run in the other direction when Pammie approaches, but then again since when has BB ever been in a right mind?

Barnette is now trying to throw some volunteer under the train, something she is known for, throw them all under the train, she is without guilt. Besides, why would she put a volunteer in charge of this alleged tree "trimming"? Why did she fail to notify the shelter manager of this and let the shelter manager know that the trees were only to be trimmed, not chopped down to the ground? Because it would be harder to blame the shelter manager than a little ol' volunteer. Just like her mistake with giving the volunteers keys to the kennels and then dogs came up missing, she strikes out again.

And does anyone have any information as to why the California Department of Justice is researching Breeder Barnette? They have been on this blog and the means in which they got here can only mean one thing, they are looking for info on her. This was not a casual search for Barnette. Care to venture any theories on this?

How much more does the Mayor and the City Council expect us to take from this blowhard breeder? How many more mistakes? Isn't it bad enough that she gave away a shelter to a cult group trying to expand their cult memberships? Mayor, you better pull your head out of Lu Parker's rear end and get to business. Your future political plans are in jeopardy if you continue to allow your appointee to screw the City the way BB has and is doing. Impounds are up, euthanasia is up, adoptions are down, what else does it take to realize that Breeder Brenda Barnette is not the person for the job? Just What Else??

RANDY TURNER, A LESSON IN WHAT AN ATTORNEY ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE

Well, his "service" dog was involved in an attack on a person but Turner got the dog back for Woods anyway. Woods turned out to be a liar, was never in the war, wasn't even in the military. Then a couple of weeks ago, the same dog that Turner got back for Woods was involved in another attack. This time it was a couple and their young son plus the wife was pregnant. So Turner is at it again. Seems he had Mary Cummins, who is being sued by Lollar, in court last week, and tried to pull a fast one. He asked Cummins if she had ever handled bats without gloves. Cummins replied that she had not except when told to do so by Amanda Lollar. Cummins is a well known and respected wildlife rescuer in LA and handles bats regularly.

August 27, 2011: I was deposed on Thursday for this case. I won't get into all of it but I will mention one question which summarizes this entire lawsuit. I was asked if I've ever handled bats without gloves. I said I'd only done that at Bat World. Turner then showed me a photo of someone holding a bat without gloves. The photo was in my blog and FB page. I was asked if this was a photo of me holding a bat without gloves. Turner thought he'd caught me in a lie. I'm positive Lollar knew this was not my hand holding a bat. Turner just believed her without thinking and probably not even looking. Below is the photo in question.

I'm sure that anyone who has ever seen me or a photo of me can instantly realize that this is not my hand. One, that hand is dark brown. I am clearly white. Two, that hand has unkept nails. Lollar keeps whining that I have perfectly manicured nails. My natural nails are longer and I keep them clean, that's it. Three, that hand is much older. Four, that is someone's right hand. I am right handed. All of the photos of me holding animals are of my left hand as I use my right hand to take the photo. Five, I've never held a bat like that in my life as you can see from my photos. The person holding that bat had just taken it out of a mist net. That is the hand of a 65 year old dark Mexican woman. I was at a two day class learning about bats, bat conservation and research methods from true bat experts.
Here is a photo of my right hand and the right hand of the person holding that bat. That is CLEARLY not my hand. The photo of my right hand is on my blog, Flickr and FB pages. Turner just believed what Lollar told him without looking at the evidence and thinking. He filed a lawsuit stating I had no permission to take the photos when I did. The suit also stated that I posted all the videos, photos after I left when the time/date stamp on the plaintiff's own evidence clearly shows it was before I left. This summarizes the entire lawsuit. Turner filed this suit without asking for or looking at any evidence. He just blindly believed the client. (Just like he did with Woods to his later embarrassment.)

The hand on the right is Cummins' hand. Big difference, huh?

Clearly Randy Turner is an attorney to avoid unless you are a lying sneak or an animal abuser.

I have predicted that Austin will be the quickest failure of the Whino but guess what folks, another one has beat Austin. This one has gone down in less than a month. East Baton Rouge Parish Animal Control And Rescue Center (EBRP ACRC) is the organization responsible for animal control in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana. The parish contains the city of Baton Rouge, which is the capital of Louisiana. The Companion Animal Alliance of Baton Rouge (CAA), a non-profit, has entered into a public-private partnership with EBRP-ACRC to provide sheltering services for the parish.

Laura Hinze recently took over as director at CAA, after serving as director at PAWS Chicago, Chicago’s largest no-kill humane society. She has committed to making the parish no-kill. CAA posts its statistics on its website, and the organization admits that the current statistics are “alarming.” In 2010, the parish euthanized more than 6000 animals. CAA has laid out a plan for the future though, consisting of action in three areas. First, reducing the number of animals who come into the shelter by providing intake counseling, establishing a Trap-Neuter-Return program for feral cats, and promoting spay-neuter. Second, making sure that animals are healthy and safe while in the shelter by establishing medical and cleaning protocols. Third, reducing length of stay in the shelter by increasing the number of animals returned to their owners, implementing creative adoption programs, and developing a foster program.

The impetus for change in Baton Rouge was the same as we’ve heard from many other communities — local animal welfare advocates who had been convinced that killing was necessary changed their minds after reading Nathan Winograd’s book Redemption and hearing about no-kill success in other cities. As CAA executive committee secretary Nancy Jo Craig said, “It’s really been part of an awakening that’s happened all over the country.”

But earlier in the week, some of the 4-by-6-foot enclosures held as many as seven dogs, according to complaints aired before the Metro Council.

Some dogs were kept in restrooms and storage rooms in recent weeks as the new staff struggled to find places for the steady flow of incoming strays without having to resort to massive euthanasia.

“We do have more animals,” Hinze said. “And we are employing spaces that were not employed previously to house animals.” (Employing spaces such as restrooms and storage rooms???? Where does the employees go when they need to take a dump???)

But just three weeks after the CAA took control, complaints began to trickle in about overcrowding and inhumane conditions.

Animal Control Director Hilton Cole, whose office oversaw the sheltering operations prior to CAA’s takeover, has opened an investigation into the complaints. (That has to be the all time record, sorry Austin.)

Christy Wyatt, a shelter volunteer of two years, filed a formal complaint against the shelter because of the overcrowding.

“It’s based on an ideology that cramming seven dogs in one cage and having them trample all over each other is better than euthanizing them,” Wyatt said. “They (CAA) didn’t have the planning in place, and what happened as a result is they overlooked the inhumanity of the situation.” (You can't plan when the incoming is more than the outgoing. Plus since when does "No Kill" care about the suffering it creates?)

But what CAA needs is more foster homes to ease overcrowding and volunteers to help operations, Hinze said. (Interpretation needed here, what the CAA wants to do is pimp off animals onto unsuspecting persons, little do they know that it will be permanent, not temporary. All in the name of those numbers, folks.)

Just 3 1/2 weeks after taking control of the parish’s animal shelter services, the Companion Animal Alliance was accused of inhumane treatment of its animals by a Metro councilman and other members of the public.

Councilman Ulysses “Bones” Addison visited the animal shelter unannounced on Wednesday morning and said he witnessed “horrific” and “unacceptable conditions” for the animals. (Kudos to this Councilman, I love those surprise visits!!)

Addison, prompted by emails from constituents, said he saw overcrowding of kennels, including one cage with eight dogs.

He said the kennels with animals were stacked on top of one another, stored in bathrooms and spilling out into the lobby. (Be sure and buy stock in crate companies when "No Kill" rears it's ugly head!! Let's not forget Doug Rae of PACCA fame and his putting cats in the ventilation ducts, now that is creative thinking.)

“I have never seen anything like it. I won’t accept it as a council member, I won’t accept it as a citizen and it needs to be corrected forthwith,” he said. “If we’re going to save animals, we can’t put them in inhumane conditions.” (You're right Councilman, but this is "No Kill" that we are talking about, and that is just fine by them.)

CAA Executive Director Laura Hinze said after the council meeting Wednesday that she disagrees with the statements about animals being put in inhumane conditions. (Staying true to "No Kill", can't see nor admit the suffering they create.)

Susan Aronson, who spoke to the council Wednesday evening, said she filed a complaint after visiting the shelter.

“The cages are seriously and very dangerously overcrowded, several large dogs were in cages with cowering smaller dogs, food aggressive dogs in one cage were fighting, a cage clearly marked ‘aggressive’ had two dogs together, and the worst was a nursing dog in a cage with four large dogs,” she wrote in her complaint.

“The animals are no longer being euthanized, but now, due to stress and fear of being in these overcrowded cages, (the animals) are more likely to fight, be severely injured or killed,” Aronson wrote. (Imagine putting a nursing mom in with other dogs, if her milk drying up from stress doesn't put the puppies in jeopardy, the other four dogs will. Just how cruel can "No Kill" be?)
