MORE HIGHWAY TO HELL NEWS. THESE TRANSPORTS ARE ROLLING ANIMAL ABUSE. ARE YOU LISTENING BRENDA BARNETTE?

Besides being immoral and unethical for sending dogs into areas still euthanizing for time and space and taking homes from the local shelter dogs so they have to die, these transports are rolling animal abusers.

This was sent to me. I do want to say that this participant used some common sense. I do hope she learned a valuable lesson at least.

And who wants to bet that Bett Sundermeyer in Houston probably is in agreement with these transports. Transports are a God send to "No Kill" because the motto is "outta sight, outta mind". Transports make it possible to be both for the "No Kill"ers.

I am writing this on behalf of the transport volunteers who gave of their time this past Saturday and Sunday, April 21-22, to get a dog named Soldier from Houston, TX to Augusta, GA. I drove the last leg, from Buckhead to Augusta, GA. It is critical that all transport volunteers, coordinators, and rescues hear my story. I am angry, bewildered, and saddened by this entire situation, as are the two transport volunteers who have worked with me in the aftermath to find out how this happened and determine a way to mitigate the damage. Although it was traumatic for me, I will try to give the facts in an unadorned fashion

The dog was being transported from a foster, where he had been for approx. 2 weeks after being pulled from BARC in Houston. His time had run out. Soldier arrived at BARC injured and with an embedded collar. He was given some vet care, but has obviously had a very hard life for such a young dog (my vet says he is approx. 1 year old). He was being transported on a moderated run by a reputable coordinator. The transport went well, he seemed to have a good overnight, and on Sunday afternoon, he made it to the last leg, which I drove. My job was to get him the last 80 miles and hand him off to the woman who was listed as the “temporary foster” on the run sheet. We had touched base by email and settled on a meeting place in Augusta, though she lived across the river in South Carolina.

When I met her, I immediately had a very, very bad feeling. She just seemed “wrong.” I have been transporting for about 5 years, and there were many red flags. For example, when I remarked that I was surprised he wasn’t neutered (the run sheet said the foster would have it done) she said she was surprised, too (if she was supposed to have it done, why was she surprised?). Soldier looks a bit like a pit mix, although it’s very hard to tell, and she said that when dogs with pitbull blood aren’t neutered by the age of 20 months, it’s “too late.” She said he looked much older than she expected. I said what did she mean, “too late,” and she said they’re “ruined, too aggressive, there’s nothing you can do.” Then I found out her full name, which is SHIRLEY BARNES. The name rang a bell, and not in a good way, but I couldn’t place it. I don’t know how to explain my feelings of dread. I very much wanted to find a way to hold onto him, because I felt she wasn’t right. However, to remove a dog from transport constitutes theft. I tried to tell myself I was just being paranoid. She put Soldier in a too-small crate in her van, and as she drove away, I had my daughter take down her license plate number: That’s how worried I was. On the way home (just a 10 min. drive from the handoff) I called the coordinator, but could not reach her. I left a message (which has never been returned) asking about the foster’s background.

At home, I ran into the house and Googled her name. It only took about 20 seconds to discover that she had been found guilty on nine animal welfare violations and that 24 dogs were impounded from her Aiken County home. Please see http://chronicle.augusta.com/stories/2009/07/15/met_540974.shtml and http://www.aikenstandard.com/story/0715barnes-trial

I felt hysterical inside and was kicking myself for not following my own “gut,” rather than procedure. I tried to contact the rescue in Texas that was listed on the run sheet, but got only the man who had fostered Soldier for the last two weeks. He was utterly bewildered and knew nothing about the foster arrangements, or even what state the foster lived in. I called the foster’s county sheriff's department, but they told me to call AC on Monday, the next day. Finally, I tried calling her, and didn't expect to reach her (the cell number she gave was a wrong number and she had told me a whole story about how hard it was to reach her by phone or email in her rural area) but by some miracle, she answered the other number. I told her that I'd absolutely fallen in love with Soldier and had called the rescue, who said I could adopt the dog right off the transport (no way would a reputable rescue allow that without an application). I really laid it on thick. Turned out, she hadn't left Augusta yet and agreed to meet me and let me "adopt" Soldier. When I went back to our handoff spot, I got him in my car and sat there for a while talking to her, trying to draw her out. She opened up and told me that she had gone down to Miami at Thanksgiving and brought up 26 dogs from the AC there. She said that she goes up to Greenville periodically to get 10, and "always ends up bringing back 20 or 25." She seems to believe she is really helping these dogs.A rescue friend of mine was able to overnight Soldier, because I have four rescued dogs of my own, one of whom is fear-aggressive, and the next day I took Soldier to my vet to be boarded and neutered, which is scheduled for tomorrow. I went to take him for a walk today, and he has a great spirit.

Here is what we have found out since Sunday:

1) The rescue under whose license the dog was pulled in Houston had no idea the license was used and has no knowledge of this dog. The founder lets one woman who does "street rescue" use her license, but insists on being kept in the loop. She knows nothing about the pull from BARC or the fact that it is her rescue's name Soldier was pulled under. She is supposed to be checking with that person to see if she did it on her own, but I haven’t heard. Bottom line: That rescue seems to have no interest in Soldier (though they may be legally bound to).

2) The foster in Texas who physically pulled the dog and kept him for two weeks IS affiliated with a legitimate rescue, but was only doing a favor and that rescue is not backing this dog, either. We have not heard from this gentleman since Sunday when all hell broke loose and he didn't like the tone of some of the back-and-forth on email. He says he has nothing to do with this, although he might be willing to take Soldier back, though he's "over quota."

3) The young woman who arranged everything through Facebook lives in Albany, NY, has never done this before, and is not affiliated with any rescue, nor did she apparently have plans for getting him adopted or moved up north to her. She is very apologetic about the whole situation and has offered to pay for his boarding and neuter. She apparently "met" the foster/hoarder, Shirley Barnes, on a FB page for animals from BARC and decided that, with Shirley's help, she could save this dog from death. She claims to have three references for Shirley, and that they were so good she made no arrangements for a home visit or checked her out with local AC, but she has yet to furnish those references to me, despite repeated requests. I now doubt that they exist. I also don’t know how she connected with the rescue under whose license Soldier was pulled (possibly the street rescue person was on FB, as well).4) The transport coordinator, who does many, many of these every month, is "reputable," though I and others have come to question how thoroughly she checks out the receiving rescue, etc. In this case, she apparently checked out the rescue of the foster in Texas, and everything came back good. However, that rescue, as you will recall, has no stake in Soldier and so its reputation is immaterial. Some of the drivers involved in this transport have driven for her dozens of times. Yet, she has been silent since Sunday, when she said she checked out the rescue.....and then said nothing more. Not a single call to find out how the dog is doing or what our plans are for him, now that he’s become largely our responsibility.

5) I have spoken to law enforcement and AC in Aiken and Edgefield counties about Shirley Barnes. I initially thought—silly me!—that they would act on this information (primarily what she said about bringing in dozens of dogs) by getting a warrant and going on her property to see if there was a hoarding situation. She is under court order in Aiken County not to own or keep dogs at her house. However, I discovered that because she has moved from Aiken County, where she was convicted, to Edgefield County, a rural county which has no animal welfare laws, we can't go after her hoarding directly.  This is why we are trying to find out everything we can about her methods  (hence, all my phone calls to Texas, etc.) so we can try to cut off her access to animals. One of my fellow transporters has called the Greenville AC (where Shirley said she gets dogs) and has alerted them. This FB “Note” is the first step in getting the word out about Shirley Barnes, but also about what can go wrong when people don’t “do rescue right.”

Transport coordinators need to DEMAND answers to their questions and confirm that the people involved are in good standing with their local animal controls. A simply Google search is a start. Transport drivers need to be sure the coordinators and rescues involved have done their due diligence….imagine ending up with a dog you hadn’t planned on caring for because people dropped the ball! Or imagine being in the situation of handing over a dog to someone who makes you fear for the dog’s safety. One minute, you’re feeling good about helping, and the next minute, you’re faced with an ethical dilemma and possible heartbreak. People who want to help, but have no experience, should start with their local shelter or licensed rescue. People in the North (where I’m from) need not assume that only the animals of the Deep South require your assistance. Act locally! Animal rescue has a steep learning curve and you should start small. Finally, all rescues MUST check out their fosters THOROUGHLY! Shirley Barnes may come off as a sweet grandma to someone who doesn’t know what questions to ask. ASK QUESTIONS and CONFIRM THE INFORMATION. The sad truth is that animal rescue attracts some unbalanced people. While we may feel sympathy for them, THE ANIMALS COME FIRST. Please share this. Thanks.

BRENDA BARNETTE: THE WITCH ON A WITCH HUNT

Actually I would prefer to use the initials of BB instead of "W"itch. Yes, indeed this woman is destroying LA Animal Services and all the while the Mayor is more interested in gaining the gay vote than in animal services.

Two animal control commissioners have resigned lately, both closely connected to Barnette. One was voting on issues of reducing fines on unlicensed dogs and all the while, this broad was breaking the law herself with unlicensed dogs. The other, well, she probably resigned to take over the ADL-LA with her extremely close association with it.

All the senior officers with all their experience was put on administrative leave and from the looks of it, it was not warranted. This article is a long read, but extremely well researched and documented. When you finished reading, call the Mayor's office and demand that Barnette be given her walking papers.

Thanks to Phyllis Daugherty for her never ending crusade for the LA animals. And I encourage everyone to contact the Mayor to end this reign of terror. Mark.Szabo@lacity.org, the Mayor's assistant, would love to hear from you.

Desperate Action Alert from ALL DESPERATE LIARS (ADL-LA)

March 11, 2011

Subject: Stop the Killing: Overcrowding from warehousing and Suffering Acceptable

Our inside janitorial staff sources tell us that great things are starting to happen at each of the City's six shelters. Although the previous Desperate Action Alert (DAA) was condemning shelter employees, this DAA is now praising those same employees. You might ask, "Why the turn around?" and the answer is this. We, at All Desperate Liars, are doing all we can to make our gal, Breeder Barnette, look good and it's hard to find anything that can actually do that. In the past, we have posted letters of condemnation of LAAS customer service, although we have to admit that the good letters far exceed any bad letters. But we need something to make our gal more acceptable, even something that has nothing to do with her. We believe that people should not be turned away from adopting from the shelters even if they are gang members wanting pit bulls or known hoarders. Those are the ones who wrote those past letters about poor customer service, the ones that can write.

Never before have we posted the nice letters that flow continuously into the shelters so why are we doing that now? Because it wouldn't have served our purpose. We had to have something to complain about, didn't we? Now we have a reason to bring these nice letters into the light, we want to help Breeder Barnette to bring "No Kill" to our shelters. Yes, we know the history of "No Kill" and we are aware of the open door shelters it has destroyed, but who cares about "those" shelters, not us. We just accept the pitiful explanations given by our Messiah Winograd without question. We want to see all shelters gone anyway. Free the animals and let them live naturally. Unfortunately we are unable to find very much positive press, none actually, on Brenda Barnette, so it is our duty to distort the truth to pimp our message. Especially now that we have our new BFF sitting on the Animal Commission, taking our message there. She makes us look good with her law school education.

We aren't questioning why adoptions are going down and euthanization is going up under our gal, Brenda Barnette. It's never been about the animals with us, it is just about US! Oops, not US any longer, it is about me, Pammie, there is no US any longer. We don't care that Brenda Barnette is shipping out animals into the unknown, outta sight, outta mind is the motto of "No Kill". Besides we take the stance that the decreased adoptions and increased euthanasia is due to a lack of budget for advertising, that is a good excuse.

Even though Brenda Barnette could at least include something about spay/neuter on her press releases, we still say it is a lack of advertising that is keeping adoptions down and the killing up. Brenda Barnette has also made it so difficult to locate information about spay/neuter on the LAAS website, but we feel certain she has her reasons for doing this and who are we to question her? Whatever her reason to now make the website user un-friendly can only mean she is working toward "No Kill". We'll just keep our fingers crossed that people won't give up their pets because of this lack of information. Her recent press release says to get that license but doesn't mention any programs to help people get their pets altered. Again, we don't question that decision because if impounds go up from people surrendering their pets over a license, we can always claim it is due to the lack of funding for advertising.

What is amazing to us is that despite our best efforts to paint the shelters as killing fields with barrels of dead animals and poor customer service, people are still adopting from the shelters. We do our best to keep people away so we have more to yell and scream about with the intentions of trying to get our "own" people hired for positions. After all that has been our goal, our only goal, since our inception. We don't volunteer, we don't take animals out of the shelters, we just want our "own" running the show. We consider our mouths and our pipe bombs to be our volunteer work.

Speaking of advertising, we think it should be paid for by the taxpayers. Why should Brenda Barnette take money from her budget for it or make an effort to get free ink about spay/neuter on her press releases? Therefore, we won't help in any way to get free advertising because it is the duty of the taxpayer to pay for it. Some feel that the very least we could do is pull weeds that are overcoming our shelters, making them unattractive to the public. We aren't gardeners and besides there is ONE volunteer who is trying to do this and we praised him in our last DAA. He should be able to cover all the shelters within a year and then he can start all over again.

Barnette is smart in saving taxpayer dollars by utilizing this one volunteer. We, the All Desperate Liars, feel that the money is better spent on warehousing animals so the numbers look better than they actually are. The money saved is better spent on sending Barnette to meetings with breeders to get them to donate newspapers to the shelters. Besides when have you ever known us to step up to the plate on anything other than sending out our Desperate Action Alerts to a handful of people. We also do our share of splashing red paint on private property and cars, throwing bricks through windows, and climbing onto balconies to scare children, all in the name of "No Kill". It's a dirty business but someone has to do it.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday at the McDonalds on Pico. We thank that crew for their generous offer of providing Big Macs for everyone attending. Don't wear your Satan suits, we don't want to be recognized of course.

Heil Nathan Winograd, Heil Brenda Barnette.

BRENDA BARNETTE'S PLAN TO GIVE PERSONAL INFO ON PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO VOLUNTEERS AND THE ADL-LA

Well, the ADL-LA just couldn’t resist a slam at LAAS employees in their latest e-boast praising Breeder Barnette and volunteers. (Which reminds me, where is that great website a volunteer is doing for Miss BB? The ADL-LA promised it would knock our socks off within a couple of weeks. Is Miss BB getting cold feet about her volunteer--who we hear may have not been “free”? More on that later!)

So, back to the latest ADL-LA BB Boast Blast. While they talk about how amazing it is that one volunteer is trimming bushes at the East Valley shelter, they don’t mention that shelter employees have come in on their own time to do this for years.

And the ADL-LA (or is that a Commissioner writing?) just had to remind us that employees are basically really bad. Here’s what they say, “pet guardian's are actually taking their time to e-mail the employee/volunteer who helped them! We haven't heard of this before. In the past it's been complaints about how badly the employees treated potential adopters and what a "turn off" it was dealing with trying to adopt an animal from LAAS.” Well that’s your first mistake. Maybe if you got your head out of your other body cavity you’d have heard a lot of things. Employees get animals adopted and help people because they decided to take hard jobs to help animals and they have always received praise from the public. Maybe you’ve just been too busy condemning them to try to make yourself look important, Pamster!

Speaking of volunteers, a very interesting e-mail was apparently written by an LAAS volunteer, saying that BB really appreciates them and is going to have them run the shelters because of her “if it doesn’t hurt an animal, it’s OK” policy. In other words, forget City policy and rules that protect the public and employees. If a volunteer thinks it’s a good idea, they can do it.

Here’s something scary! According to this volunteer, keys are being made for volunteers to come in to shelters day or night and have access to the animals and computers, and they will soon be telling shelter employees and managers what to do, because (the e-mail says) a call to Miss BB or her flunky Mark Salazar from a volunteer will “get you what you want regardless of what the shelter manager says.” Can this be true? (If not, Miss BB, you are invited to let us know exactly what is going on in the comment section below.)

Along with that, according to this enthusiastic volunteer,
Miss BB is making arrangements so volunteers will have access to records in the LAAS chameleon system on ALL pet owners in the city, especially dogs. That includes the public AND public officials.

Yes, Mr. and Mrs. Council person, Commissioner, or Hollywood celebrity, or City employee, pretty soon all LAAS shelter volunteers may be able to get your address and phone number from your dog license or if you’ve ever called for help or someone has complained about your pet.
Volunteers don’t go through the screening like a civil service employee. How safe does that make you feel after the threats and “protests” by the ADL-LA have made the Mayor and past City Attorney and dozens of city employees run and hide and caused one GM’s wife to have a heart attack?

To verify that they are not getting information they ”need”, the volunteer e-mail talks about a City Council person adopting a shelter dog and when the dog was recently found tied up over 50 miles away, the owner did not come to get it when called. Naughty, naughty council person, if that is true! However, the e-mail says that pretty soon volunteers will be able to call or write or do protests at homes of any public person to make “an example of them” if they don’t’ keep their pet. That information is supposed to be confidential. That is why LAAS officers and employees can be fired for disclosing public records.

It seems BB has become the “Chief Volunteer Coordinator” now and is building her own system and rules. Volunteers come and go and LAAS doesn’t really know who they are (we saw that happen when she was in Seattle)! If they have access to the part of the computer that has private information and if Queen BB allows this, she and the City can be sued royally if any of a public figures private information is exposed or any harm is done to them or their family.

One more thing, Pammie, and whoever is now writing the ADL-LA BB Boast Posts, the bonds for the LA shelters were $154 million dollars, not $52 million. The taxpayers, not the ADL-LA and not Breeder Barnette, own the shelters and decided they will be run according to City rules. If BB doesn’t know that, maybe a nice lawsuit and the courts can teach her, and YOU, that lesson ROYALLY!

Brenda Barnette & Best Fiends Bomb at “Acatemy”!

The highly touted Acatemy Awards adoption event in LA by Best Fiends, http://network.bestfriends.org/golocal/losangeles/16780/news.aspx was a BOMB!

Only 58 cats were adopted in this "Big event". And they were doing the infamous hoarder sale, two-fer-one. Anyone looking to get a pet on sale probably can't afford the upkeep. You don't shop for a pet according to price. It's been shown that these "two-fer sales" result in a high number of returns. Any reputable rescue will tell you that unless two cats are bonded it is a mistake to do two together most of the time. Of course, there are exceptions and the two cats might work well together, but most often that doesn't happen. People get these cats home and one of two things happen. Either the cats don't get along together or they bond with each other and not the owner. A sure way for them (or at least one of them) to be sent back to the shelter or dumped.

Out of a city of 4-1/2-million people, only 58 cats adopted!! Possibly less than 30 people adopting. But Best Fiends thinks that is a success. Fair from it, it is a joke They took 137 cats to this event and only about a third were adopted. AND, how many of those went to rescues?

What is the definition of success, Best Fiends? I call this a FLOP. I bet at least a third to half are going to be returned to the shelter, but, of course, we’ll never know for sure. Are you finding cats homes or are you selling shoes, BOGO? Disgusting garbage, Best Fiends. Wonder how many donations were raised for Best Fiends because that is the real reason for these events. It has little to do with the animals, but a lot to do with donations and building a mailing address you can sell or use to solicit.. Let’s call for the City Council to prohibit the soliciting of donations whenever these events are held or having people sign things that give their contact information to ask for money later. The only ones who should be soliciting during events should be local charities, not one sitting in Utah or LAAS itself. If that happens, you won't be seeing Best Fiends around anymore.

Bosom Buddies: The ADL-LA, the NAIA, and Brenda Barnette

Or maybe strange bedfellows? How did you miss this one, ADL-LA? Do you really know who you are supporting, Pamster? Just everything that you "say" you stand against is what your bosom buddy, Miss BB, stands for. I'm quite sure, Pammie, that you know who the NAIA is but for those who don't, well here is the morbid truth. For those less informed about the NAIA, it is the National Animal Interest Alliance, a very deceiving name because nothing it does is in the interest of animals, only in the interest of money. Kinda like the Whino and his "No Kill" deceptive name.

http://www.naiaonline.org/about/More_about_NAIA.htm

I will paraphrase because this group's website doesn't allow me to cut and paste.

Their philosophy supports:
The responsible and "humane" use of animals for food, clothing, medical research, companionship, assistance, recreation, entertainment and education. The NAIA supports ethical and regulated hunting and fishing for wildlife management programs. (Ethical, my ass, nothing is ethical about this group.)

The NAIA rejects the animal rights movement and considers it unnatural, misguided and harmful to animals and people. (OMG, Pammie, look at what they think about you. Yet you are crawling into bed with them???)

The NAIA is supported financially by breeders, medical researchers, livestock, poultry, and egg producers.

Whoa, wait a minute, Pamster, is this not all that you fight against? So how does all this fit together, one common factor, Brenda Barnette.

Brenda Barnette's kennel club, the Seattle Kennel Club, of which she was a legislative representative is a big supporter for the NAIA, raising funds for their dastardly work. We all know the stories associated with medical research. We all know of the plight of animals in entertainment. We all know of the poor chickens who are forced into cages so small they can't turn around and forced to lay eggs until it kills them. We know of the gestation crates of pigs and what a horrible life they have. Yet, this is part of the NAIA, they protect those involved in this type of cruelty by fighting legislation that would make these animals lives a little better. Barnette actually participated in raising funds for this, she probably is still a due paying member of the Seattle Kennel Club who raises funds for the NAIA.

http://www.brillwood.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2340&sid=0fd1fb9dc987f8a37d681fc669f1d941
The Seattle Kennel Club, along with NAIA (National Animal Interest Alliance), is hosting an "Organizing to Win" seminar on Friday, March 7, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1801 E. Valley Road in Renton and will be speaking to help organize the people and clubs in Washington State to defeat Bills that are currently being heard in the House and Senate. We all know that if we do not organize NOW and show the AR's that we are united, it will only be a matter of time before BSL and MSN is on our doorsteps like it is in other states. The registration fee for this seminar is $40 in advance, $50 at the door with a portion of the proceeds to be donated to the NAIA. This will be a fast paced couple of hours exploring the issues and solutions facing the relationship of humans and their animals in today's political world. I plan on attending and if anyone else is so inclined, go out to the Seattle Kennel Club website at
http://www.seattlekennelclub.org/ , scroll down the home page and click on the 'Organizing to Win' link and it will take you to the registration form.

Now I would venture to say that since this is pertaining to stopping legislation and since Barnette was the legislative representative for the kennel club, it stands to reason she was probably one of the organizers of this event. SO WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO SAY ABOUT THIS, ADL-LA? HOW WILL YOUR NEXT ALERT READ? It should read that you have sold out, that you now support those who support medical research and the cruelty of agribusiness. Explain this away, Pamster, you can't. You're a joke, ADL-LA, a bad joke. Get some backbone back and help us get rid of this Breeder Barnette. And while you're at it, get rid of Nathan Winograd, he's in league with Barnette as well. You've been his puppet for too long and look where it's put you.

ADL-LA: EXCUSES, EXCUSES, EXCUSES TO COVER FOR BRENDA BARNETTE

I expect any moment for the Comedy Store to have a big picture of Pam Ferdin or Terri Macellaro as an opening act. The latest "alert" from the ADL-LA comes across as total desperation. C'mon Pam, Terri, face up, your gal ain't cutting it, never did cut it, and never will be able to cut it. Now you are standing proud of having a full blown breeder to head animal control and actually defending breeding? Geez, hell has surely frozen over!!!

Let's re-word your alert to it's truer meaning.

So any rumors about Barnette being "in" with the breeders is false "on it's face" and "as applied." She doesn't breed and all her companion animals are spayed/neutered and she likes it that way! Do you really believe that, Pamster? Did Miss BB stop paying her dues to the AKC or better yet, did her daughter stop paying her dues on her water dogs? Her daughter is still breeding with her Mama's blessings. Did Miss BB tell the breeders at the "Meet and Greet" that they should stop breeding because shelter animals are dying? Did she educate those breeders about their responsibility in all of this? Of course not, silly Pamster. Boy has she pulled the wool over your eyes. Believe me that the breeders would not be saying "she is one of us" if they thought any differently. The woman ran a commercial breeding kennel, for God's sake, a puppy mill.
http://workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2011/01/brenda-barnette-hailed-as-one-of-us-at_18.html
http://www.kirotv.com/news/18677601/detail.html
"Seattle Humane Society Director Brenda Barnette is as concerned as the breeders about the proposed new law."

ADL-LA: Barnette is a bridge builder and a team player and that's why she is willing to work with any person or any group that will help her reach these goals. As the head of a City Department, she has a very broad constituency and it is appropriate for her to work with all community groups.

According to those employees that Barnette hired this ain't so, Pamster.
http://workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2009/10/seattle-humane-employees-painting-true.html

OMG, with all the things saying just the opposite, where are you getting off Pamster? Not at my station, that's for sure. She conspired, yes I said conspired, to create instability while in King County.
http://workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2010/06/more-on-barnette.html
http://workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2010/06/terrorist-or-idiots-you-decide.html
But over the past three years, we (Claire Davis, Kim Sgro, and Brenda Barnette) have worked by your side to create instability in the system, for the very reason that a broken, failing system should not be stable.
http://workingtohelpanimalstodaytomorrow.blogspot.com/2009/12/king-county-aco-guild-files-lawsuit.html This lawsuit is still on going. Barnette was ordered to relinquish her emails and that is when she tucked tail and ran for LA. It ain't over yet, Miss BB.

And then to add insult to injury, the ADL-LA is trying to defend breeders by bringing up a "training" video. Pleeeeeeze!! First Cathie Turner wanted to donate their rags and newspapers to the shelter and now they want to train staff. The ADL-LA surely doesn't believe that breeders are true rescuers, what an insult to the rest of us. The Vincent Bill was designed specifically to address the fact that breeders were pulling their breeding stock from shelters, thus a law to alter all shelter animals. How soon Pamster forgets this little tidbit of the Vincent Bill. How easy it is to pull a purebred from the shelter and pass it off as a "papered" product if your product has died. The vast majority of purebreds look alike so this is easy to do.

I pose this question to you Pamster, how many breeders have you walked the street with in demonstration? Got an answer? Wouldn't take you long to add them up, right Pammie? Where's the $$$$ dollar pledge from all these high-income breed clubs??? How many hours a week is each breeder pledging to come down and clean shit out of kennels?? Guess that wouldn't fit the pattern of "caring" as much as making a training video of something that "looks like a shelter dog" or "doesn't look like a purebred." Why don't you ask these breeders for money for advertising for LAAS?

This is the bottom line, ADL-LA. You made a mistake, you refuse to admit to it. Should be easy enough since BB failed your Messiah in King County, he ain't poking his head around too much, is he? You are a disgrace to everything, what you stood for, what we all thought you stood for, and a disgrace to your lack of helping the animals in the shelters. You disgust me, Pammie, you and your kind.

ADL-LA GETS AN "F" ON GRADING BRENDA BARNETTE'S FIRST SIX MONTHS!

The ADL-LA seems to have lost its collective nerve on protecting animals from research because they praised Breeder Barnette for sending over 100 helpless dogs from Los Angeles to Canada—where they still have pound seizure (giving shelter animals to medical research labs). Maybe that’s because the ADL-LA is no longer a “collective” (so to speak--) but a one-woman show! That one woman being Pam Ferdin.

Could there be truth to the rumor that Jerry Vlasak has flown the ADL-LA coup? We heard the Pamster (Ms. Ferdin) is now on her lonesome—except for maybe a friend on the LAAS Commission (who got their praises on the ALF website a few years ago)—and so she’s puffing up to look like something she ain’t! In the meantime was that JV with the next Ms. V that people are talking about?

Well, we’re not Dr. Phil here—speaking of which—it’s a shame that the dog he adopted from an LAAS Commissioner (posted on her website) made the headlines recently for biting a family friend. Wonder if the person who did the adoption told him about the tendencies of that breed?
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/dr-phil-s-dog-attacks-beverly-hills-beauty-expert

Well, regardless, being a one-member ADL-LA doesn’t have much clout but it doesn’t matter because nobody’s paying any attention anymore anyway except maybe Bill Rosendahl and Paul Koretz. They seem to feel more powerful knowing they got the backing of a group a very reputable LA animal rescuer recently called alleged “eco-terrorists” in testimony to the City Council.

So after years with Sea Shepherds and other groups saving the oceans, here’s what the ADL-LA say about the Planning Department doing a study (EIR) on how much more poop-and-piss pollution would be produced in storm drains by a 66% increase in dogs and cats in Los Angeles—ALL (literally) dumping right into the ocean.

Read the ADL-LA post below and see if this sounds like an environmentally sensitive group. (Would you give an A+ to Breeder Barnette for trying to push this through without a CEQA?)

“FROM THE ADLL-LA on February 12th, 2011
“1.The ocean has an island of plastic bottles bigger than the size of the state of Massachusetts. Human-animals negatively impact the environment much more than non-human animals, who have NOT negatively impacted the environment for millions of years.
(In other words, all the public health officials are wrong when they say dog and cat poop pollutes the storm drains, river and oceans.)

“2.Hundred of thousands of baby diapers and plastic pampers filled with urine and shit are thrown out car windows and/or left laying on our beaches. Certainly babies, kids and adults negatively impact the environment much more so than two more companion animals per household! And when our companion animals poop, we pick it up in a recyclable baggy and dispose of it properly!

HERE’S MORE FROM THE ADL-LA:
February 10th: Before we send out the second part in our series on Brenda Barnette: New General Manager at LA Animal Services, we want to set the record straight as to the role of Animal Defense League- LA, its board of directors and its members. First off, we are nobody's groupie, certainly not Barnette's. We have never sat down with her to hear her talk about herself or her plans; why would we?
(SO, WHO ENDORSES SOMEONE THEY’VE NEVER “HEARD TALK ABOUT HER PLANS??) (WHAT ARE THEY GRADING HER ON?)

Only actions speak to us, not words, as we continue trying to expose and halt the killing of homeless and abandoned animals inside our six city "shelters".
(OH, OH, BIG TROUBLE IN RIVER CITY FOR THE PAMSTER---BREEDER BARNETTE’S EUTHANASIA STATS ARE UP/HER ADOPTIONS ARE WAAAAY DOWN!!!)

And, while we’re speaking of it, the number of animals that have “ESCAPED” from the LAAS shelters since she’s been here has ALMOST DOUBLED! Does that mean all those volunteers Barnette and Mark Salazar have turned the shelter over to aren’t very well trained or knowledgeable? (LAAS shelter employees rarely allow animals to “escape.”) Last year the number was only 28. The same period this year since BB has been in charge, 54 have “escaped.” Where’s her order that this must stop? Why isn’t the Commission and the ADL-LA up in arms? Could it be that they don’t really care what happens to the animals in the street—as long as they don’t have to count them or take care of them in the shelter?

This seems to be verified by another issue brought up by an animal rescuer who was trying to get help for two dogs owned by a homeless person who was leaving them on a one-foot tether in the blistering heat with no water and then in the thunder and rain and freezing cold weather without shelter because he put his trash in his tent to keep it dry.

The disgusting story of how Mark Salazar and Brenda Barnette handled this situation is below and I highly suggest you read it and weep.

WATCH FOR MY NEXT POST. WE’LL DISCUSS BB and SALAZAR’S ABYSSMAL STATISTICS AND SOME OF THE “QUESTIONABLE” CHARACTERS THAT GOT BREEDER BARNETTE HER A+ FROM THE SHRINKING ADL-LA.

I leave you (for now) with this post from a very responsible rescuer on how “humane” Breeder Barnette and her flunky Mark Salazar are. They’ll do anything to avoid having to take an animal into the shelter. (Isn’t that what “shelters” are for?}

Please cross-post across Los Angeles and on Facebook.
For most of the past year, my charity has labored to improve the living conditions of Princess & Dude, two dogs who belong to a homeless man. In the past decade, we have only asked for an LAAS intervention a handful of times.

One of those times was in December.

Unfortunately, LAAS has continued to tolerate well-documented inhumane conditions, from last summer's sweltering heat, to this winter's torrential rainstorms, to what I documented today.
We've got TONS of photos of the dogs tethered in the burning heat, and the torrential rain, of South LA.

Brenda Barnette and Mark Salazar original asked for 30 days to get the conditions improved by Lori from Downtown Dog Rescue. 30 days came & went. They asked for two more weeks, which also came & went.

Last year, when LAAS seized the dogs for inhumane living conditions, Lori bailed the dogs out and returned Princess & Dude, and kept a third dog, and found a home for her. My charity was willing to take on both Princess & Dude, but Lori wanted to play social worker while subjugating the animals' needs.

“So, enjoy these two sickening videos. The one of Princess is her hiding in December's torrential rainstorm, while tethered INSIDE a cage, and unable to get into a seeping nylon tent, because the homeless man stuffed it with trash.
http://www.youtube.com/user/standfoundation?feature=mhum#p/u/1/fHNNLM1XcrA

“The other video is from YESTERDAY, which shows Dude in the heat without food or shelter, and a one-foot tether around his neck, unable to sit on the hot asphalt, or the jagged bottom of the chain link fence.
http://www.youtube.com/user/standfoundation?feature=mhum#p/u/0/iE9aEYZgIHo

“Objectionable? You betcha. And Brenda and Mark want to give Lori even more time, putting the dogs' welfare on the back-burner, even though my charity was, and remains, prepared to take them on.

If you're as troubled about this as I am, call or email: (BB’s contact info provided.)

Brenda will tell you that they want to help the homeless man, but the Department's mandate is strictly public safety and the animals' welfare. At some point, the animals' welfare must come first. Life on a 24/7 tether is no life. Especially when it's one-foot in length. The alleged eco-terrorist who adores Brenda gives out phone numbers in action alerts, so I'm sure they're perfectly fine in sharing Brenda's.

Members of LA City Council (Again, BE POLITE)
http://www.lacity.org/YourGovernment/CityCouncil/index.htm

Or the local media. Ultimately, Dude & Princess pay the price. For no good reason at all.”

Brenda Barnette's Next Transport Plan - Priority Mail

And why not? Looking for alternatives to the expense of gasoline, I suspect this might catch on with Barnette and her cronies for transporting dogs since they don't seem to give a damn about where or who the dogs are going to. Wonder if there is a guarantee for delivery on time.

http://www.startribune.com/local/115011544.html?elr=KArksD:aDyaEP:kD:aUq9_b9b_jEkP:QUiD3aPc:_Yyc:aUoD3aPc:_27EQU

The postal worker was stunned when the package moved by itself and fell to the floor. Then came the sounds of heavy panting.

Within minutes, she and co-workers had unwrapped a tightly sealed box and rescued a 4-month-old puppy that a Minneapolis woman tried to mail to Georgia.

New Contest: Who's the Biggest Liar - the ADL-LA or Brenda Barnette

Recently the ADL-LA, the newest supporters of agribusiness cruelty and research on animals, issued a statement that employees of LAAS and rescues are supporting BB. Yeah, right, and my s**t doesn't stink. No names of course to back up this ridiculous statement. As usual the ADL-LA makes their general statement to the effect they have insiders. No one in animal control that has a right mind would report to the ADL-LA. So I thought I would post a couple of emails that were sent to the Council members and Barnette.

Brenda Barnette has been sending loads of dogs in the back of cargo vans to Canada to get them out of her shelters and keep her numbers down. Many rescuers said they were worried about these animals going out of the country and to somewhere that they couldn't be traced to see what happened to them. An article on a newsite last week disclosed that Canada still has "pound seizure." They release animals from the shelters for medical research--any lost dog may possibly end up in one of the medical lab cages also. Thousands of animals go from shelters to labs each year. Here's the link to the article that tells about it.
http://www.opposingviews.com/i/l-a-shelter-dogs-transported-to-canada-rescue-or-ruse

So, wouldn't we expect the ADL-LA to be yelling and screaming? Aren't they supposed to be leading the charge against pound seizure and research on animals? Aren't they worried about the horrible prolonged suffering and painful death of these precious animals? Shouldn't they tell BB to knock it off and get out of L.A." But, NO, the ADL-LA this week gave Breeder Barnette an A+ on her job!! So I guess that shows what liars they are. ADL stands for ALL DUMB LIARS!

Honestly, Brenda…..

Your staff rescued a cat from under a chaise lounge in Beverly Hills. Really, Brenda? What a marvelous feat. Really deserves boffo press coverage.

What happened with your "flyers" and your "aCATemy Awards" Brenda? Haven't heard anything about those. How about that foster program that puts animals in basements (which few people have in L.A.)? What’s happening with that? What happened with the hundreds of foster homes you promised? Haven't seen a press release about that. How about doing actually doing something about the horrible guard dog situation in South LA and the many illegal breeders about whom you’ve been alerted? Haven’t seen any action on either of those fronts.

Busting illegal breeders whom you can easily find by looking at Craigslist - there are new ads for pit bull and chihuahua puppies every day - now THAT might deserve a press release.

You have done absolutely nothing to decrease the killing of cats and large dogs, pit bulls in particular, which are the two largest populations of animals in the shelters. Are you ever going to actually do the job our taxpayer dollars are paying you for or just continue keeping a low profile and meeting with your AKC/breeder friends?

And killing shelter animals?

Many people involved with the shelters suspended any negativity about you after your appointment was confirmed by our City Council, and everyone has been watching to see if you perform. Doesn't seem to be much going on, does there? You've been here long enough to have made a positive, dramatic difference by now, but all you've shown is that you are not up to the task.

The kill numbers are up, and adoptions to the public are down - both significantly. What ARE you doing? The most recent stats, posted by YOU, are hideous:
(insert stats)

We have long memories and little patience for your incompetence. How much longer are you planning on staying here? Do you have a time frame for your real intentions, which are obvious?

It has been clear from the beginning that you want to repeal the mandatory spay/neuter ordinance that we worked so hard to enact. As a breeder and the AKC Legislative liaison who has been directly involved in fighting mandatory spay/neuter legislation here in L.A. as well as elsewhere, you really have no business even being a City Shelter Manager. Amazing that your appointment was confirmed. Your appointment is akin to putting a crack dealer in charge of our health care system.

It is also clear that you wish to help your AKC/breeder friends by increasing the pet limits without requiring spaying and neutering.

I and others would really would like to know when you plan to leave so that maybe - just maybe - the next GM might be someone who cares about doing a proper job and actually saving animals' lives.

That would be miraculous.

Brenda,

We all agree on those 3 points. The problem is that you are doing nothing to accomplish any of those goals. You say you are willing to work with and communicate with those in the community, but you have not demonstrated so. Everyone that has met with you has walked away shaking their collective heads, and you are doing nothing to stop killing animals in our shelters. I've heard many in the community say that they actually miss Ed Boks. That speaks volumes about you.

You've been here 5 months collecting a fat paycheck and making no progress. I only wish to participate with those who are trustworthy and display public accountability, transparency and honesty. That doesn't include you.

This response you sent me doesn't address any of the issues I presented. You seem to be adept at rhetoric, but not forthcoming with real solutions or even information.

What about the breeders? Your friends and others? What about innovative programs to stop killing shelter animals? What about the stats that show a huge increase in killing on your watch? Care to explain? What about the guard dog situation? What about the foster homes? What about the Craigslist postings? Cats and Pit Bulls? Your AKC connection and the fact that you fought our mandatory spay/neuter law? Care to address ANY of it, Brenda?

When a pathetically attended unsuccessful adoption event was held at our $19 million shelter you ducked out to meet with your AKC breeder friends at Galpin Ford. You didn't even take the time to market the event and actually do something to ensure adoptions. Care to discuss that?

That poor cat who was shot with a tranquilizer gun in Beverly Hills was identified as a male. In this email you say "she." Do you not even know the sex of this poor cat?

And don't you think that this was overkill? This was a house cat - not a mountain lion. I'm sure your SMART team is well-intentioned, but couldn't they have used less drastic measures than dart guns to capture a small cat?

This is another example of your non-existent plans and ideas to help cats.

This cat has been available for adoption since Thursday January 20th at 8 am, and is still not adopted tonight, nine days later on Saturday night January 29th.

Your "news release" does not describe the cat in a positive manner that could make someone want to adopt. Your "news release" attempts to make you and the SMART Team look good, but not the cat who is in peril. The cat is possibly in isolation where no one will even see him.

The cat looks (appropriately) terrified, is an adult, and is not particularly remarkable on his own. For a cat who is the subject of a "news release," you would think the General Manager would at least make sure a good photo is on the LAAS website. You didn't even do that (see below).

What are the odds that this cat will be adopted? It appears the "Good Samaritan" has no plans to rescue the cat after calling attention to him.

What will you do with this cat now, Brenda? Transport him to somewhere else to be killed and then boast to everyone that he was saved from LAAS?

This is despicable. Please do the animals a big favor and leave. Leave now. We can't afford you for another 5 years.

YES, WHEN CAN WE EXPECT YOU TO LEAVE? AND DON'T LET THE PROVERBIAL DOOR HIT YOU ON THE WAY OUT!!!!!!

BRENDA BARNETTE HAILED AS "ONE OF US" AT LA DOG BREEDERS' EVENT

A MEET & GREET FOR BRENDA BARNETTE WAS HELD AT GALPIN FORD IN THE VALLEY AND GUESS WHO PUT IT ON? COULD IT BE THE CALIFORNIA FEDERATION OF DOG CLUBS (BREEDERS)? Yeah!!

According to an email dated January 14th from Carol Hamilton of Katiedid.dandies-at-adelphia.net (a breeder) announcing a meet and greet for Brenda Barnette on January 15, at Galpin Ford in the Valley, Brenda Barnette is "ONE OF OUR OWN".

That Saturday was a busy day for BB. The first time a $19 million shelter in the Valley--a City of Los Angeles asset--is used for the public should warrant the General Manager's presence...don't you think? Brenda Barnette dutifully did show up--BUT SHE DIDN'T LET A LITTLE THING LIKE A MAJOR PET ADOPTION EVENT INTERFERE WITH THE RECEPTION HER BREEDER FRIENDS PLANNED IN HER HONOR.

The Mission Shelter adoption event in the NE Valley began at noon. Barnette was outta there around 12:30. It appeared that she had a bigger priority than a lowly pet adoption. Barnette couldn't be late for her four-hour "meet and greet" with the BREEDERS!!! Nice priorities, Brenda! Off she ran, leaving behind her shelter's special event half an hour after it began, to spend four hours (1 to 5 pm) with the "California Federation of Dog Clubs.”

The breeder invitation is for "a Meet & Greet with Brenda Barnette, the city's new director of Animal Control." If there is anyone out there that can remember any other LAAS director being treated to a meet and greet by the breeders, you can let me know, I don't remember one myself.
The cover email included this scintillating tease about Breeder Barnette:

"She's one of us - shows and breeds dogs!" A direct quote, not in the past tense, present tense. The breeders know--once a breeder, always a breeder!

The room reserved holds over 100 people. There was a large buffet of fruit, veggies, tortilla chips and dip, ice tea and yummy chocolate chip cookies - enough food to satisfy at least 100 hungry breeders. BUT, fewer than 20 breeders showed up. WOW, guess BB wasn't the draw they expected! Are ya listening, Rosendahl? Where were you since this is obviously your crowd, you missed an opportunity to rub elbows with your kind, which could mean campaign contributions for your future plans.

Here's how the Breeder Barnette "Meet and Greet" was laid out:

When you entered the Breeder Barnette "meet and greet" you were quickly met by a breeder or two asking, "Are you a breeder?" Wonder what would have happened if you said you weren't? Would you have been kicked to the street? Maybe they were paranoid about the BOE or the Franchise Tax Board showing up and taking names to check and see if those in attendance were paying taxes on their breeding activities, and thus the screening.

What did Breeder Barnette do at her priority event for the day? Barnette stood and chatted with a few people. Then she sat and chatted with a few people. Later, she stood and chatted with the same people.

Barnette never gave any presentation. Once, when the keynote breeder was showing a PowerPoint, genius Brenda educated us all that different animals may be impounded in different numbers in different parts of the country. Wonder if she knows about pits in the LA shelters and their population in most major city shelters. Pit bulls are common factor in almost every shelter. Could have mentioned that problem. Or chihuahuas in the LA shelters. Nothing more than a general statement from Barnette. Later when asked if shelter employees are good with breed identification, Brenda said "it varies depending which shelter." The presentation was to "educate" shelter staff as if those with years and years experience don't already know such things. Such intelligence! Such insight! Makes you wonder why she's the GM!

These breeders have their nerve talking about educating. Barnette should be teaching them a thing or two like how their "business" affects everything. Selling unaltered dogs, not paying taxes that could help support the shelters, stopping their fight against legislation to help the situation. Or how they play a role in the cruelty of puppy mills by supporting the AKC. Cooperating would have been the theme she could have used but no, she didn't do that because she is "one of them".

With Breeder Barnette having no prepared comments, the breeders said the "meet and greet" was to get everyone's comments about a draft of a PowerPoint presentation (which they could have emailed to one another for comment). I say that they realized how dumb Barnette really is and she had nothing intelligent to say. This was all for show, folks, so these breeders can stand and say how they "help" the shelters.

The PowerPoint shows AKC dog groups (working, sporting, toy, etc.) and their characteristics, and it shows nine dogs often "mistaken for pit bulls." The most "substantive" comment a breeder offered to the group about the PowerPoint was to modify its background colors. Gee, golly...why didn't I notice that! I just thought it was dull to make Brenda look brighter!! Guess that didn't work out.

What was it really about? The invitation did not mention any PowerPoint. The invitation to the meet and greet with Brenda Barnette put it this way: "It's your chance to get to know her and to let her know your feelings about the mandatory spay-neuter law and any other issues concerning our dogs and our rights as responsible owners." God, I hate seeing that word, "responsible" applied to breeders and to refer to themselves as owners, they ain't just "owners". They are breeders, big difference. Owners give animals homes. Breeders raise a product for sell. Breeders create animals who then become part of the overpopulation problem that fills shelters.

Maybe that is why one breeder wore her "No Mandatory Spay-Neuter" button. Were those private little conversations with Breeder Barnette and the other breeding enthusiasts to discuss trashing the City's spay-neuter law? You can bet your booty that's the case.

There were some revealing comments overheard, spoken by the various breeders who had come to meet and greet Brenda. Get the bucket, these may make you vomit.

° "There is no dog overpopulation." Straight from Barnette's Messiah's lips to the breeders' ears. Gives credibility to breeding, this morbid philosophy.

° "Any excess dogs and cats here are because we are importing them from places like Mexico and Thailand." Translated, these imports are taking money from our greedy pockets.

° "Mandatory spay-neuter will make it so our children cannot find dogs when they are old enough to have one." What? You can't breed dogs for your children!! Besides just meet the requirements for a breeder license and your children can have all the dogs they want. Sounds like they don't want to report their taxes to me.

° "80% of animals enter the shelter already spayed and neutered." Where does that come from? It applies more to those exiting the shelter than entering it. And, if it is true in L.A., how is Brenda really spending all those s/n dollars she claims are used on shelter animals?

° "Spaying and neutering does not lengthen your dog's life." When asked how she knows, she said, "There was a Veterinary School study." When asked which school, the answer was "Davis. I think." I'm surprised this one can even read.

° “The government has no right to tell us to spay and neuter. The next thing you know they will be telling us we can't have longhair dogs." Yeah, yeah, yeah, and the government has no right to pass drunk driving laws or make us pay taxes on our litters.

° "There is a surplus of 'crap dogs'." [No definition given of "crap dogs."] I'll give you my opinion of her definition. Mix breeds, shelter dogs is what she is saying. When will breeders admit that when they sell a pet-quality dog unaltered that they are creating those "crap dogs" via a backyard breeder? Unaltered pet-quality dogs are the fodder that feeds backyard breeding, so that people can "recoup their investment", because they probably overpaid if they got it from a breeder. So this one can thank herself for those "crap dogs", she is the one making them.

° A particularly choice comment from the loud and confident apparent CA Dog Club Breeder Leader, Judythe Coffman, who boasted that she was carrying a concealed pistol: "The reason you don’t see purebred coonhounds in the shelters is that if they don't hunt well, they aren't rescued. They are shot where they stand." Talk about a pistol packing MaMa, (and she looks like one). Wonder if she would have shot anyone at the front door who might have answered the question by saying they were a rescuer. Easy to spot this broad too, she's just a fat Barnette lookalike. Nice comment, wonder if she shoots her Weiners when they don't perform. One can only wonder just how many she has shot.

Hey, Brenda. Are these ladies and two gentlemen your friends? Are they the people who are giving you all those cutting-edge shelter reform ideas, like fostering animals in basements?

One person was overheard questioning Breeder Barnette about the pet limit increase. (Barnette is pushing hard to increase the number of dogs and cats allowed per home in Los Angeles.) Their exchange tells it all about Breeder Barnette:

Breeder Person: About the pet limit increase you want. Would the animals have to be fixed?

Breeder Barnette: Oh, no!

Breeder Person: Why not?

Breeder Barnette: Because I don't think it's right. It would discriminate against responsible breeders.

Who uses the word "responsible" to describe breeders? And how could any "responsible" LA Animal Services GM be pushing for more unaltered animals in the city? Maybe this is exactly why Seattle AKC Legislative Rep BB came here--to open up Los Angeles for her Breeder Buddies by doing away with dog and cat limits, allowing unlimited puppies and kittens, and making sure that spay/neuter is not a requirement. Well, if that's true, it doesn't look like many of them thought she was worth coming out for! Pretty paltry group.

Are Council (other than Bill Rosendahl and Paul Koretz) and rescuers really dumb enough to do this? We'll see.

Brenda Barnette's Latest Flunky - Mark Salazar, How Dumb Can You Be?

Well, it could have been predicted based on his past record. Brenda Barnette’s new flunky, Mark Salazar already screwed up. Now that it’s been confirmed from several reliable sources, obviously everybody knows about it. When you work for a tax-supported government agency, there are no secrets, BB.

Barnette, of course, wants to cover it up but inquiring minds deserve to know. Apparently from reports, on New Year’s Day, Brenda Barnett’s new “ highly qualified” Director of Field Operations Mark Salazar took his teenage son into one of the LAAS animal shelters for a holiday visit when the shelter was closed. That's a No-No!! The kid must share his Pop’s bad judgment so he stuck his hand in a kennel and got bit!

If that was any other City employee, would they still working there? All government shelters, and some private ones, forbid bringing in family members just for the fun of it when they are closed to the public. Salazar knew that. With his checkered work history, he's worked for more than his share. What’s next, Markie? No need to answer, we know what is next in store just from your past history, a leopard doesn't change his spots.

Besides Barnette doesn't care, she is just as dumb as Salazar. She was the one who imported dogs from Kern County, unvaccinated, across two state lines where it is against the law to bring in unvaccinated dogs. When confronted with this by the State of Washington, her response was "I didn't know". Imagine a head of a major shelter not knowing the laws of the State or not caring about bringing in diseases that could be in unvaccinated dogs. She's a real winner, huh, folks? And she wants to surround herself with other "winners". Least we not forget that the vet who served under her in Seattle was disciplined for prescribing medication for himself under his dead dog's name. Yep, Salazar fits right in with Barnette. Dumb, dumber, and the dumbest.

Still Sliding Downhill, Barnette

FINALLY, the stats are posted for LA City and they show it is a downhill slide.

This is for all cats and dogs.

Are the Rescues Behind Brenda Barnette?

UPDATE: This is really sad but this is what happens when the public hears "No Kill". http://www.examiner.com/animal-news-in-los-angeles/christmas-eve-drop-offs-at-east-valley-put-more-dogs-at-higher-risk
One would assume that if the rescue community were in support of Brenda Barnette that they would come running to take all those animals out of the shelters and make her look good. Let's take a closer look at the first five months of Brenda Barnette's tenur with the City of Los Angeles.

My previous post has some numbers that BB released right before Xmas although the total stats have not been posted on the website as of the writing of this post.

To first address the question of the support of the rescue community, looks like the answer is no. In July, New Hope Placements were 676, August 616, September 614, October 577, and November 397!! What happened? Doesn't Barnette's philosophy of "No Kill" stress it takes a community? Where's the community here? Instead of promoting a relationship with this community, Barnette is instead promoting her relationship with the breeding community with her push for upping the pet household limits. The rescue community sees this and is withdrawing their support in the only way that will be recognized, don't take the animals from the shelters.

In October the return to owner was 434 but the bottom fell out in November with only 292 pets reclaimed. Easy to abandon pets when you think in terms of "No Kill". The intakes are the highest since 05 with the "No Kill'ers" yelling it is the result of MSN. No it is the result of a lack of reality based leadership.

How LA could have hired Barnette with her baggage is beyond me. She is chasing her breeder friends around because she's not stupid. She knows they make political contributions and she is an appointee of the political system. She can ride the waves behind her boss if she brings in the moola. Why isn't she concentrating on things she can make happen like shoring up licensing? Or doing something to get more pets back to their owners like microchipping, etc. Why isn't she helping the rescue community to have exempts for their fosters rather than chasing the raising of pet limits? Because it has nothing to do with helping the shelter animals.

She's doing a lousy job, people, and she has nothing in her bag of tricks that will make anything good happen.

Fudging Doesn't Change the Truth, BB

Seems BB did a press release today praising herself to high heaven. The stats for November still aren't on the website but this press release seems to paint a rosy picture, but not when you compare to the last stats posted for October.

THANK YOU ANGELENOS!
2,105 Companion Animals Went Home in December
(now, does that include the November stats?) Before the Holidays
Thanks to you, this December 2,105 companion animals
(or does it mean in ONE day she had this many? See how she is trying to confuse.) from Los Angeles City shelters are in homes of their own.

“We are grateful to 1,264 adopters
(compared to 1844 for Oct. 10 for just cats and dogs) , our fabulous New Hope rescue partners who took 397 deserving animals from our shelters (compared to 624 New Hope Placements of cats and dogs in Oct. 10), our dedicated partners who transferred 152 dogs to communities where adopters were waiting to meet them (and were these already altered by the LA Taxpayer with any kind of reimbursement from those "communities"?) and 292 caring families (compared to 492 for cats and dogs in Oct. 10)
who came to our shelters to be reunited with their pets who had gotten lost”, reported Brenda Barnette, General Manager, Los Angeles Animal Services.

Los Angeles City Shelters will be open December 24th and December 26th. If you are spending some quality time at home during this Holiday Season, this could just be the puurrrrfect time to add a furry family member to your life!
(yeah, just the right setting to bring in a new pet, chaos, people, yelling, running, children, you name it, great time to acclimate a new pet!!)If you have room (or a garage or a bathroom) in your heart and home to add a new best friend, please visit one of our six locations and choose to adopt!

POST THE STATS FOR NOVEMBER, BRENDA BARNETTE. SO FAR THE STATS ARE WORKING AGAINST YOU. SHADES OF ED BOKS ALL OVER AGAIN, LA.

Brenda Barnette-Your Desperation is Showing!! & More "Hot" Stuff From LA

Well, folks, I had to take a little break but I’m back and rarin’ to share, so here goes.

Has anybody noticed that BB is sending out "News Releases" every few days, begging people to adopt, foster....anything,( just please get these animal out because my stats are in the toilet!!) Well, that's certainly the way it's looking.

She is in waaaay over her head. People aren't rushing in to get those ten year old pit bulls and the word’s out that the LAAS shelters are getting overcrowded. Today she sent a big news item entitled "The Weather Outside is Frightening" and I thought, wow, she's actually telling people to get their pets out of the torrential rain--but NO--it was telling you to adopt a cat for Christmas. (Holidays, with all the parties, strangers and chaos are a perfect time to bring in a new pet, she says.)

Here’s the string of “Desperation messages” she’s put out just this month—all saying about the same thing. Does she think this is PR? You can see them on www.laanimalservices.com I’d say she’s getting close to panic and some others think so too and have e-mailed me. What do you think? Maybe her best buddies (besides breeders) Ed Muzika and the ADL-LA can give us a little inside scoop on their idol. Is she already falling apart? Why aren’t they singing her praises for Christmas. Has she toppled off her pedestal?

Talk around town is also that no enforcement is being done on breeders (why doesn’t that surprise us?) or anything else. Of course, what do you expect when you hire a Field Operations Director with no field operations management experience? Yes, folks , Brenda Barnette bypassed LAAS officers with lots of experience to hire, Mark Salazar, someone she can bully and who wouldn’t know what she’s REALLY doing. (More on that later.)

You can’t make this stuff up, folks! Miss BB is right back at it again, making it up as she goes along. But it looks like LA may be smarter than (she thinks) she is.

A biggie is the the motion to increase household pet limits in LA City was assigned to Planning, according to the file. This is rational. They’ll be looking at facts and what it does to people and animals to jam them into small houses and yards in a city like LA that’s already overpopulated with people and animals. It will also bring in the opinions of people who have millions of dollars invested in L.A. real estate and may not like turning their entire neighborhood or the whole city into an overcrowded animal shelter so that Brenda Barnette and her buddies Rosendahl and Koretz can pay a favor back to their supporters in the breeding industry.

Here’s another one BB thought she could pull off but got exposed. This is a biggie! Read this---do you think any veterinarian in the SCVMA is going to risk looking like a fool by using Ms.B’s name again?

Barnette claimed and wrote in her report to the LAAS Commission for their October 12 meeting that the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association and all its 1,500 members are in support of raising the limits in LA to five dogs AND five cats. There seems to have been a “slight misunderstanding” according to an anonymous e-mail I received that had a copy of the SCVMA Nov. PULSE magazine article attached. It seems that only 55% of the SCVMA members who responded to the survey think it is OK to increase the number of TOTAL pets in households in Los Angeles to FIVE.

Seems during that official meeting BB had with four of the top vets of the organization (including John Hamil, a Laguna Beach dog breeder/vet who even made TV commercials for Pedigree with his dogs. See the link below for his take on SB 250—the CA S/N Bill and on an AKC panel), Ms. Barnette forgot one small detail. Some of the best veterinary minds in Los Angeles were not told or didn’t grasp that Los Angeles already allows three dogs and three cats, totaling six, and that BB, Rosie and PK want that to go up to TEN. I’ll bet the head of the SCVMA was not happy at being embarrassed and misquoted by BB! Get used to it LA. It’s all about HER so don’t get your panties in a bunch if she “fudges” a little, here and there—it’s for her cause—the BREEDERS and the AKC!!

And, speaking of veterinarians who breed…I couldn’t resist searching for Bill Rosendahl’s WLA
veterinary friend who supposedly started the whole increased-limits thing and I looked around until I found a vet that had a post called, “Looking for Love.” Voila! It was him, but OMG—the next episode of StoryTime with Dr.B. is called “Hot Fessie.” It’s too X-rated for this blog, but there it was—written by the vet who wants more animals in Los Angeles and describing his female dog’s heat in graphic detail! Get ready to feel a little sick if you are a rescuer and think these people are your friends! You can just Google that name for yourself. Like I said, folks, you can’t make this stuff up!

Here’s another example of this depraved crowd.

Take a look at the "Stud Service Agreement" of Barnette’s best breeder buddy, Cathie Turner, who is President of the breeding organization that sued against the L.A. S/N Ordiinance, (CDOC). It says she'll impregnate your "bitch" anyway you want it--natural methods (as long as her stud can provide the necessary service). She'll do it by artificial insemination, so your "bitch" doesn't have a choice. Or she offers "frozen sperm"---in case things don't "warm up" enough for the real thing! Can you imagine her and Barnette (who is/was a breeder) enjoying these activities on Christmas morning? Or maybe that's what they do at their holiday parties--everybody has a few drinks and stands around and watches the live doggie porn! (Oh, almost forgot, it was also reported that Cathie Turner says she doesn’t have an LA breeder permit because she doesn’t breed in the city. Where in her detailed contract does it say she can take that bitch to another location? Somebody should check and see if BB made sure there is a breeders’ permit for CT and her Sunbeam Farm Golden Retrievers.)
http://www.sunbeamgoldens.com/Images/GenericSDContract.pdf

Question: Has it occurred to anybody else that “breeding a bitch” the way the Sunbeam Farm Kennel Contract describes it, is literally “rape.” The female has NO choice. They choose the stud and she gets pregnant or else they do it again till she does. Is there anything more unnatural than a female (of any species) not getting to choose who she wants to mate with? The natural way of any species is that the female does chose her mate, she choses the most healthy, the strongest, etc. Is this any different from the "rape rack" used by the pit bull nutters? Why isn't this considered cruelty?

But when she puts on her Sunday-go-to-meeting suit, Cathie Turner is after the goodwill of the Animal Services Commission by dangling "sponsorship" of shelters by breeders and breed clubs. So while the breeders in the club rake in thousands from their puppies, they will provide a stack of old newspapers and used blankets for the shelter animals? What a deal!.

How about proving they are paying their fair share of taxes and not lying on how many litters and puppies per litter they are having and selling? What a deal for them and what an insult to the Commission and to the animals and overflow being killed in the shelters who are the second, third, fourth generation from their purebreds (it only takes a couple of years, folks) of the "purebreds" the breeders sell all over the city for big bucks. But, of course, those are not show champions so what do they care.

What matters to breeders is exactly what BB is giving them--or trying to give them: NO LIMITS, NO S/ N LAW (Cathie Turner already said she may refile against it), NO REAL LICENSING (on-line only so the breeders won't be bothered by some pesky canvasser or officer knocking on their door and seeing all their crated bitches and studs--remember, the puppies don't "count" so they don’t have to hide them.)

Where's the ADL-LA and Muzika and all the others that pummeled Boks like a woman with a scarlet letter??? Barnette admitted that the impounds went up after she came. Where are the stats on her "foster" program? Boks was FORCED to disclose EVERYTHING immediately. Why isn't anybody even asking? Have they realized Barnette came here for only one purpose--to make Los Angeles the BREEDING CAPITAL CITY of the nation? Worse, yet, are the ADL-LA and Ed Muzika accepting it or ARE THEY PART OF IT??? Maybe so…they all follow the Whino around like whimpering puppies, hanging on the words “No Kill” like they are saving their own lives and Nathan Winograd, he has already proven to be in bed with the breeders. Do we need a calculator to figure this one out?
